NOT AGAIN, he thinks as he's falling to the ground.
He wasn't flying high, but still high enough for the hard ground to permanently maim him, this time. Watching said ground rapidly come closer and closer, he reaches for the tiny handle on top of the wings' engine and pulls sharply onto it, praying for the emergency parachute to be enough to smooth over his fall.
It spreads, putting his fall to a fair halt. Still, Joaquin wraps his dead wings around his arms and torso and gather his legs closer, bracing for the impact, knowing it's gonna hurt.

Sometimes on good days, when his dad wasn’t screaming and shouting at everything that moved, he’d put Bob in the truck and drive out on the 72 and go fishing with him in the evening. Flashlights in the dark, streaking dim across expanses of black water, muggy air, mosquitoes. Little red eyes looking back out of the water. They’d sit and guess how big the gators were from the distance between the eyes. You’d better watch yourself out here, Bobby, his dad would say sometimes, and pretend to start to push him forward over the boardwalk with a big hand splayed on his back. And he’d laugh and laugh, like it was funny.
Bob had never thought it was funny. But he’d learned early on to laugh along.

When Bob tries out a new solution for his wellbeing, he's advised by Barnes to keep to a schedule and avoid any variables. But this means pulling away from the New Avengers (and Yelena) for a while, and even though the results are fantastic, all that pent-up need for connection and affection has to go somewhere when the adjustment period is over.

And sure, he wouldn’t mind taking a minute to himself, those shame rooms hurt a little more than he’d care to admit. But there’s no time for that with all of this new responsibility.
So, his nightmares are back, sure, he’s used to them. And no more therapy, no time. And oh? Sam doesn’t want to talk anymore? Okay that’s fine. He’s back in the middle of all the chaos? Cool sure.
And as for focusing on himself and his own health? Okay let’s be honest, when did he ever do that?
Or, Bob has a bad night, and Bucky’s the only one around to help. Unfortunately, they end up in Bucky’s shame rooms instead. But that’s okay, cause Bucky’s totally over it now. Totally.

American refugees are flooding into Canada. Too many tensions, huh? Going to cause a war if we don’t do something. So what are we waiting for?”
