The second Vegas had entered the hallway, that red shirt cascading down his lithe frame that Pete was not fooled into believing held no strength, Pete’s face morphed into the most clueless, the least capable expression he could think of. Like breathing, he let it wash over him, watched Vegas spare him a brief glance before instantly skipping ahead to follow his father.
“What was that?” Arm asked to his right, the raised eyebrow letting Pete know exactly how much of that non-interaction Arm had noticed.
“Nothing.”
“That wasn’t nothing.”
“Let’s call it precaution, then,” Pete said, refusing to elaborate.

Summary
There are several scenarios that Pete suspects to walk in on when he arrives back at the hospital:
Scenario 1: Vegas is still asleep and Macau and Tankhun have somehow managed to remain civil towards each other. This seems like the least likely scenario.
Scenario 2: Vegas is still asleep and Tankhun has tied Macau to a chair for the hell of it. While this would cause a great amount of trouble, it is almost comforting in its normalcy.
Scenario 3: Vegas has woken up and spilled every single secret that he has in his drugged up state, leaving him even more vulnerable than ever.
Scenario 4: Macau has killed Tankhun in a fit of grief stricken rage, which causes Arm, in turn, to kill Macau in a fit of grief stricken rage, since Arm and Tankhun are apparently in love and Pete can’t stop thinking about it.
Scenario 5: Tankhun has verbally attacked drugged up, pod person Vegas, which has caused him to burst into tears and pull out his IV, in hopes that he bleeds out.
It’s none of those things. Those things would be expected. Nothing happening right now is expected.

Nothing will distract him -not even the way Vegas fucks him senseless against any surface, and makes him feel things he couldn’t imagine another man doing. Fortunately, Pete is capable of having sex with his boss without feelings of any kind. And to Vegas, Pete is just another lover, of course. It’s not like his easy smiles, his incessant chatter and the way even his brother likes him is turning his whole routine and life upside down or anything.
The silent demonstrations of love as they both pin for the other for months? Not even a thing.

Whispers of how volatile Gun was towards everyone and how his eldest son seemed to get the brunt of it. And there was always gossip of the reason behind it – most favoring homophobia or Vegas’s personality as the causes. And while those stories might be true, Pete also remembers a couple of tales that Tankhun had told him."
Life continues on after the siege - after Vegas's near-death experience - after everything. Pete's insistence on learning about his love's past leads to troubling revelations and shows him just how far Vegas was willing to go to protect Macau throughout the years.
