Summary
Something pulls taunt behind Adam’s breastbone. A confusing emotion that’s close to envy but stops somewhere near blatant admiration. As Gansey tilts his head back and back and back, spreading his arms wide to this night and this life, Adam has to convince himself that the Gansey before him is real and a part of his attainable world and not simply a mirage of all he’s ever envisioned in his greatest aspirations.
In which Adam thinks Gansey belongs to the stars and Gansey wants Adam to understand something very important.

The closer it got, the more Adam's chest would twist and the faster his heart would beat. A bead of sweat would break out on his forehead by the time it began growing taller and taller, reaching spindly pieces of blackness towards his frozen, shaking, dangling hand. When it touched him, he could feel Ronan’s pulse beneath his hands with haunting accuracy. Not the quickened pulse that came with bare skin-kisses-maybeidreamtyou’s, but the kind of pulse that had been accompanied by blood-bruises-screaming-ganseywakeup’s.

In Ronan's arms, Gansey looked breakable. Ronan hadn't thought Gansey could look anything of the sort. Even when Whelk had held him at gunpoint and Ronan had tumbled into the ER to find Gansey with a broken thumb and a wild panic in his eyes, he hadn't seemed breakable even then— panicked and mess? Absolutely. Never breakable though. But this Gansey? The one breathing softly and shivering in his arms despite the glaring summer heat? This was a Gansey that Ronan seldom saw, if at all. This was a Gansey Ronan wished didn’t exist.
Ronan Lynch, for as long as he could remember since his father's death, had not been a gentle person. He was rough edges and bitter words and anger. But when carrying Gansey back to his car, Ronan thinks that he's never held something so carefully in his life. He walked slowly and surely, gripping onto Gansey tightly, one arm hooked under Gansey's knees and the other at his back to press him into Ronan’s chest, his head resting in the crook of Ronan’s neck.

It’s been a while. A minute. Feeling like years. Ronan’s practice is more in practical application, these days—Declan, in car lot, or Kavinsky, pinned to car hood, or even holding Gansey’s fist, watching the prickle and concentration, the course of sweat already swimming down his brow, looking just disheveled enough it’s near unbearable, but really, really, it’s been ages since he’s had collision with canvas, and the swing, chain rattle is pure nostalgia. Pure heartache, the thrum and his father at his back, explaining, again, no, no, thumb, out, open fist, close when—and Ronan’s breath is catching again in his throat, even as the bag makes a relatively impressive drawback, his skin screaming. Unaccustomed to impact beyond flesh.

Summary
Ronan is insatiable, which isn't to say Adam isn't the same, but it's different for him. He wants Ronan all over him until his hands are there, then he doesn't want to be touched because he's reminded of how different they are. Adam wants to be able to want sex without all the complicated feelings attached, but they won't just go away.
Adam pushes Ronan onto the bed and goes for his neck, ravenous with the need to touch, lick, bite. Ronan moans at the teeth marks Adam leaves on his shoulder.
He tries to reach up to squeeze Adam's hips, but Adam pins his hands by his sides. He tries to sit up to meet Adam in the middle and kiss down his neck, but Adam rears back. "Don't wanna be touched today?" Ronan asks, not necessarily gently, but without any sort of judgement.

At least, that is the case right until his apartment building gets invaded by a new neighbour, Richard Campbell Gansey the Third, who brings with himself three thousands books, a collection of tea from all the countries he has ever been in, and a service dog that actively makes Adam Parrish's life miserable now.
And worst of all, Gansey carries his past on his sleeve. The past that forces Adam's own to get acknowledged again, the rotten roots finding their escape from where they were buried a long time ago, and unanswered questions demanding to be resolved once more...

"As Adam drove back to the Barns that night, he was thinking that he must have been wrong about being exhausted when he woke up. He was now a million miles past simply exhausted. At the factory, his head started aching, and by the time he was leaving Boyds it was pounding in time with his heartbeat. At some point between bending over the hood of some car or another, his sinuses started feeling swollen and he found himself in the impossible juxtaposition of simultaneously not being able to breathe through his congestion and wiping his running nose on the sleeve of his coveralls every few minutes. On top of that, he hadn’t really eaten anything besides the apple he brought for breakfast and a few bites of his granola bar for lunch, his stomach twisting whenever he thought about eating anything more.
As much as he wanted to deny it, Adam was sick."

“At least they text,” Ronan said heavily. He didn’t mean it as a competition, especially since Blue and Henry had been gone almost two months straight already. But just the day before Ronan had resorted to actually texting the words: Miss you to Adam, and he’d only gotten a less-than-three in response, hours later.“He’s busy. That damned job.” Gansey half-shook his head in a disapproval he shared with Ronan. Adam’s work-study job drove them both up the wall.
“And he needs his sleep,” Ronan said, dejectedly. “But I fucking miss him.”
He never said that out loud. Especially not to Gansey, because it felt like the sentence “you could be at college with him if you’d done something about it” was always lurking just under the surface, and despite his explosive temper, Ronan really hated fighting with Gansey.
But it was late, and neither of them had been sleeping well that week - bouts of insomnia and persistent nightmares keeping them both up till nearly dawn most nights - and Gansey’s back was to him, shoulders slumped.
