Henry and Hans make up for lost time and get in trouble a little bit while pretending Hans' upcoming nuptials aren't actually happening. A friend catches them in a lie, and they both have to fight for their honor and love. This takes place just after the end of KCD2. Tags reflect upcoming chapters.

He needs to know the taste of someone other than Bartosch. Like how certain herbs neutralize others in his potioncrafting. The poppy of a lullaby potion, a forever sleep that Henry wishes to feed to the memory of that night in Trosky. The marigold to counteract it, to heal the festering wound of regret buried deep in his heart. Between the twelve bells of then and now, he could temper the hurt; he has enough of both flowers to brew something for the pain.
This is a love story told through the eyes of a blacksmith, a bodyguard, and a bastard. Henry sees none of those things as clearly as he sees his own failures. Then he meets a man who shows him that some mistakes can be forgiven... and so perhaps Henry can be, too.

Summary
Henry leads a simple life. He works at a hardware store, knows half the neighborhood, and earns a little extra money from work that's better left unquestioned. He's not a thief. He just knows how to move through the places where everyone else forgets to look.
One day, he's asked to take Hans into his home. No questions asked, all expenses paid. All he has to do is let him stay there without worrying about his presence.
They clash over everything. And yet, something about that forced coexistence slowly begins to change things, so gradually that neither of them sees it coming.
The problem is that Henry's life isn't as low-profile as he believes. And what seems like a routine job ends up dragging them both into something far darker, toward secrets neither of them wanted to reveal.
Toward enemies Henry thought he'd left behind.
He never imagined things would become this complicated.

Then the man who picks him up every day... Older, a little fat, with a round face and curly brown hair—he must be Erik's father, is Henry's guess. He pulls up in his sleek sports car right on cue.
But today, the window is rolled down. Before they drive away, Henry sees a thick-knuckled, gold-ringed hand pull Erik in for a kiss that isn’t fatherly at all.
What the fuck?

Henry shed his gloves, tossing them onto the table with a casual thoughtlessness, alongside his apron which was thrown over a chair. His tunic was light to withstand the heat of the forge, and damp with sweat, so he peeled that off too and threw it into a bin of laundry for the goodwife to tend to (or the man himself, knowing him). Shirtless, he made a lazy path towards the basin.
Hans wouldn't stand for it.
"Don't bother," he said softly, and Henry smiled as if he'd expected to be stopped.

"This's perfect!" Hans sloshed forward toward him, grabbing at Henry's collar, "You geeeeeeeeenius!"
Henry keeps reliving the day Hans Capon invites him to the Rattay bathhouse. Is he being punished? Has he been given some divine mission? And what the fuck is Hans doing in the bathhouse for five hours? Henry is determined to return to the real world, and he'll do just about anything to get there.
