Summary
You ain't my first," Ponyboy confesses as he looks up at Dallas in the darkness that's punctuated only by a few shafts of light of the basement. Faintly, he can hear the sound of music at the repast, can scent the mixing of wine and other spirits as much as he scent some of the liquor that's down here, hidden a few rooms away, earthen altar that Ponyboy sits upon.
He'd done his best when constructing it out of the bits of the basement he'd had access to — the wood had been difficult to put together, the altar barely high enough to really be called that.
That there's a thin stripe of saliva there, trailing from Ponyboy's collarbone to the slight valley of his breasts only makes Dallas harder, makes him want all this more.
"You ain't mine, neither," Dallas says, his dark eyes glimmering, taking in the hazel tint of Ponyboy's own, his scent beautiful against his nose. "You ain't gonna hold that against me. I ain't gonna hold it against you, either."
The Curtises are buried. Ponyboy and Dallas do what most people do at weddings and funerals: fuck beneath the eye of the Divine.

Summary
He'd thought the same thing at eighteen years old, after all, when his parents had died and he had only been eighteen years old for a few hours. Things hadn't borne out that way — but he wasn't eighteen anymore, now was he? He was twenty-three now, with a steady job, with a pack who cared about him, and with as much money as he'd been able to save, waiting for his brother to come back by any means.
He repeats, "I can handle it."
June, 1968. Darry Curtis receives a call that his youngest brother, Ponyboy, has been found again. He drives to the station in Oklahoma City to get him back that June, eager to be reunited with his baby brother who was taken from him.
He's not sure, when his eyes fall on him, that the person sitting on that bench really is Ponyboy. Perhaps it's a cuckoo wearing his face, imitating his movements, using his eyes. Or maybe a single mistake in the past has now changed their current present in ways that Darry has not expected.

Summary
"If I say his name here, that would give him the power to come back, wouldn't it?"
"You said you didn't believe though," Ponyboy counters, smiling widening on his face. "Unless you do, of course, and you're scared."
She can hear the unspoken taunt of being a chicken, as if they're kids in Tulsa again, as greasers. Curly used to play that stupid game of chicken with every kid on the block, and before that, it had been Tim who did it, the one who showed him how.
The only person who ever bested Curly at that game was her; she had the scar on her thigh to prove it.
To say it would admit that there is power in a name, that she believes in that power and that she believes that this Entity is real. That it really did carve a home inside of Ponyboy, and made him do something like crack open Randy Adderson's ribs to get into his heart, bare handed.
— the aftermath of an incident of possession, in three parts.

"Could say the same about you, Roger," Ponyboy says, his voice cold and menacing as he can make it despite Roger being several inches taller. "It's greaser territory here. You ain't real welcome."
"Where else was I gonna keep up cheap broads for the sock hop tonight?" Roger fires back, clearly looking at Angela and Ponyboy's chest, his scent obvious in what he wants.
Halloween, 1956. Roger Sheldon thinks that he's got his new date in the bag. Ponyboy begs to differ on that subject.

Summary
Ponyboy's parents attempted to carve out a life in the Oklahoma panhandle instead of Tulsa. This is a mistake; they wind up being swept up in the Dust Bowl, killed as bandits and their children are left in Darry's care.
Eventually, after the death of his best friend Johnny Cade in the dusty Oklahoma landscape, Ponyboy finds out that Darrel Curtis Sr. is not his biological father. This forces him to make a choice, fleeing to Los Angeles to pursue a career not just as a pulp novelist, but as a screenwriter.
This leads him to three things: his biological family by way of Atreus Pelopides, his father; his future mate, former Capone and Luciano associate, Dallas Winston; and eventually, making the movie Days of Glory, a movie made to help strengthen Soviet-US relations during WWII, as Allies.
It's Days of Glory that winds up being the reason Ponyboy is eventually dragged to Congress to answer a pertinent question: Was he, or is he, a member of the Communist Party? And would he name names?
