Summary
One of Harold's hands came up to rest on the back of Jude’s head, so light that Jude could hardly feel it; if Jude needed to break away, he knew he could. He turned his face to the side so his tears wouldn’t soak into Harold’s shirt. He opened his mouth to speak, but what emerged was not a word, but a sob that tore itself painfully, embarrassingly, from his chest.

Nines steps fully into the bathroom and slides his palm flat against the curve of Gavin’s spine, up to the base of his neck. “Migraine?”
Gavin nods, the motion prompting a full-body shudder and a responding whimper that he tries to hide by ducking his head. He cups a palmful of water up into his mouth and spits it back into the sink basin, then reaches blindly for his toothbrush. Nines winces internally when Gavin succeeds only in knocking the toothbrush holder over, and he uses his swift reflexes to catch it before it clatters loudly onto the counter. He makes the executive decision to intervene before Gavin pushes himself harder.
“Here,” Nines whispers, plucking the toothbrush up and reaching into the drawer at his right for Gavin’s toothpaste. “Let me.”
