He laughs, and the sound is so unexpected that Izzy startles, heart thumping unevenly in his chest, breath caught in his throat. His chin tilts and his eyes squint and his nose wrinkles with it, and it strikes Izzy that he’s never heard Frenchie laugh before. Not properly, not like this.
I could care for you, Izzy thinks, sudden and violent as a bolt of lightning splitting a mast.

Summary
It was when Stede stepped out onto the deck of the Revenge and hands grabbed him, pulling him forward, that Low stopped pushing Ed ahead of him. Moved so quickly that Ed – still trembling with the pain of Low’s grip on his neck – didn’t have time to anticipate, didn’t see it coming until Low was in front of him and Ed was being slammed backwards against the wall, the impact jarring his injuries and making him gasp.

“Anyway,” he continues, “then Ed — that is, Blackbeard, bent over me and said—”“Do the Blackbeard voice!” Wee John exclaims.
“He does voices?” asks Finn, in an awed whisper.
Wee John scoffs. “Of course he does voices. He’s our captain.”
Well. Stede can hardly disappoint, then. He clears his throat and thinks of Ed’s voice: its lower pitch, roughened with a hint of rasp, the heavier tongue that drags his vowels and thickens his consonants. “The Gentleman Pirate, I presume.”
In which Stede accidentally convinces the pirating world that Gentlebeard (or Blackbonnet or Stedward; there's a poll) is canon, reunites his crew, and gets his boyfriend back.

The first thing Ed did when he saw the ships in the bay reduced to floating bonfires was laugh. He laughed because it wasn’t real. Because that couldn’t possibly be right. He watched columns of smoke as they rose up, up, up and mingled with the clouds. He heard screaming, faintly, and the telltale splashes of people desperately jumping overboard to escape the pyre. He thought to himself, What does this represent?
A snort from behind him had his whole body freezing suddenly. It wasn’t very often someone managed to sneak up on him. He clenched his teeth and turned his body, slowly, casually, to find the source of the noise.
A man with a ceramic nose was watching him, rapt, like Act III of a Shakespeare play.
“Hello, Mr. Teach,” he said, in a distinctly aristocratic voice. “I was hoping to have a word.”

Summary
After Stede texted a wrong number and accidentally met Ed in Pink Flags and they go on their first real life date, they try to work out how they can fit their lives around each other.
Recently out of an abusive and controlling relationship, Ed is inspired to take back control of his own life when he sees how recovering alcoholic Stede is doing the same.
They didn't set out looking for love, in fact they'd both given up on ever finding it, but just like in every universe, once they enter each other's orbit they can't escape.
This is the story of two changed people taking back control and working out how to fit into each other's lives without letting their pasts get in the way. Love can't heal or fix things, but it could be the reason to try.
