What Medic remembers of his RED counterpart's life is snow; the passing lights of a train; a classroom and chalk.
What life is there to be gleaned from the minutiae of memories that aren't his to begin with?
What life is there to be formed when he has one right here?

Summary
Detective Norman sits across from him.
He stares at Tommy, brows raised, smile incredulous. He had taken his coat off sometime earlier; his pristine dress shirt practically glows under the light.
“One big happy Family, huh,” he remarks, dryly.
“Sure,” Tommy replies, with a half-hearted shrug. “We were happy.”
“So, what did you end up gettin’ the Don?”
Tommy pauses, then sighs a plume of blue smoke. He looks away from the detective and to the window. He scratches his jaw with his thumb.
“What do you get for the man who has everythin’?”

originally part of a larger story, but i've since reread the file and figured that these 5 chapters make for a pretty good story on their own. releasing in celebration of mtoc, but please: no spoilers. this was written two years before mtoc, and as such, i took liberties with the boys' backstories. updates every saturday.

Summary
It’s routine, at this point. There’s little room for variation.
Even here, where novelty foregoes punishment--or even acknowledgment--he can’t bring himself to do more.
To do anything of significance.
To leave before he can let himself scratch this itch until it starts bleeding.
Routine knows him by the divots in a rusty old keypad; by the phone number he calls every weekend. Their private performance.
Is it true freedom if it's planned all the way down to the letter; the number; the bone?

a fic about BLU sniper; a phone number; and the nerve-wracking terror that comes with being the copy of someone else's memories. someone recommended this fic to their mom and it's the highest honor ive ever received.

Summary
“You,” Logan answers, “taste like shit.” He spits the rest of Wade’s blood out the window to his right, as if to further make his point.
“That’d be the cancer, jackass.” The still healing hole in his neck whistles with a chuckle. “Guess they don’t got sensitivity training where you’re from, either.”
Logan hums, amused, despite himself. He shifts his weight; only then does the warm and hard sensation tented across his knee make itself apparent. He doesn’t have to look at it to know it isn’t his--but he’s not that far behind, not now, with the implication of it.
“You sick fuck.” It’s Logan who laughs this time, albeit dryly. “You’re gettin’ off from this.”

Summary
Agent Michael [REDACTED], a government agent who's main job is to cover up the numerous lawsuits and OSHA violations charged against Black Mesa. After a severe brush with cancer as a result of his former employment with Aperture Science, he's hoping Black Mesa will be a walk in the park. He'll soon learn, however, that nothing is a walk in the park when it comes to Black Mesa versus the law.
Security Chief Calhoun, head of security at Black Mesa. He's rarely seen by anyone, much less the security team. He's considered by many to be the Administrator's right hand man--or his lapdog, to those who hate him. No one is sure of when he turned up; they've just assumed that he's always been at the job and they haven't noticed. He mans the surveillance room. If any kind of danger presented itself, Calhoun would be on the job in a heartbeat. Don't be fooled by those sleepy eyes--he's always watching.
And Gordon Freeman, an MIT graduate who often finds himself working as a heavy lifter for the science team.
Three individuals--caught in one resonance cascade that will change them forever.

Summary
Your heart is on my sleeve
Did you put it there with a magic marker?
--V's life, as of late, has been one thing after another.
He's caught the attention of more than a few unsavory characters; he's on his way to the top of Night City itself; and he's got the ghost of Johnny Silverhand living inside his head.
Nevermind the Relic cutting his life expectancy down the longer he goes without removing it--nevermind Hanako Arasaka, whose offer still stands, who he has consistently been avoiding. It's one thing to live with a ghost; it's another to give up everything for him.
If loving Johnny Silverhand is the way he's gonna go--then that's how he's gonna go.

Summary
Holden Ford's life is one shade of white after another: white apartment walls, neat white, iron pressed button-ups, dozens upon goddamn dozens of round, white pills that calm the anxious buzz that goes through him like an electrical current day after day.
White cigarettes pinched between lips he can't stop staring at, white hair shorn like a soldier's, white t-shirts over thin boxer shorts.
White upon white upon white.
His hands are bloody with the dark, explicit thoughts that race through his mind, with the things he can't bear to say out loud. These perfect shades of white, of his life, are marred by this russet gore, this evidence of his revolting vulnerability.
When Holden's panic disorder reaches its worst, darkest point, he learns that only blood satiates intimacy; that he is more than what he must be; and that he doesn't know who it is that looks back at him in the mirror.
He is a person in the same way that they profile a serial killer; through implications gleaned from the minutiae, the trivial.
If not a person, if only the implications...
It begs the question: who, or what, is Holden Ford?

Summary
The operators of Rainbow have all met their match over time, and survived after death past that. This often leads to a rather lax attitude towards open unhealing death wounds, jokes about being impossible to poison, and a generally casual attitude towards injury. This is usually just fine, they are among similar company, and it’s a good release valve from the pressure of preforming during missions.
The problems only begin to arise when very alive visitors, unaware of the undead status of Rainbow’s agents, visit the base.

Summary
Happening too close to Pyro on the field, Spy realizes why he's never been able to understand his muffled words before: he was expecting them to be in English, when Pyro's been speaking Spanish the whole time! Luckily, Spy's fluent, and suddenly Pyro's no longer isolated by a language barrier, finding a friend and connection on the lonely desert, growing deeper as the two secretive men learn more about one another.
(Discussion of Pyro having psychosis re: Pyroland, but it's just sort of a fact of life for ya boy.)
