Summary
Atsushi has a little too much free time now that he’s essentially semi-retired. He doesn’t have too many good friends, at least enough to spend all his leisure time with, so he’s been trying to get out of the house more instead of staying in with his 3 cats, drinking wine and reading. He just can’t do that all day. Over time he’s picked up a few hobbies -cycling, yoga, calligraphy, solo karaoke, finding new hole-in-the-wall joints to enjoy some grub, visiting museums and exhibitions, the last of which has inspired him to pick up drawing, which he used to enjoy as a kid but never really had much time for in his adult life. He joins a beginner’s drawing course, with the class consisting of retirees, housewives and the odd university student. Atsushi himself was a bit of an outlier as a fifty-something year old man, but the instructor was just a few years his senior, so he didn’t feel so alone. And even if he did, he’s never minded being alone.

Not like you deserve - not like you need.”, Karl admitted, and Jacques was already ready to forgive and forget, at least for now, at least for another month or two until the sweetness of Karl’s apology would have been once more forgotten after the man’s attention would have been focused on his work and not on Jacques for so long that Jacques would have felt forced to stop his loneliness from shredding him to pieces in some other way.
And yet, before Jacques could even reply, Karl moved one step further, causing Jacques' voice to hitch.

Hob just got dumped.
It's fine, nothing that hasn't happened before, but it hurts. At least he has a good friend to help him through it. But his friend is struggling with his own shadows, and is counting on Hob to help him through it, too, even if he won't admit it.
Perhaps this is an opportunity. Perhaps they can finally learn how to be better friends for each other. And perhaps, if Hob just plays his cards right, he will even get to figure out who exactly his friend is.
