Summary
Beforehand, I want to note that these are mere theories, interpretations, and connections I made.
I'd love to mention that lore-confirmed information will be included and touched on, at a surface level.
I will try to analyze multiple aspects of Messmer's design. (armor, boss fight, weapon, etc...) I will also try to connect the mentioned lore with the analysis. -

AU in which Finlay survived as well, carrying Malenia back on foot and collapses at Haligtree, but is nursed back to health by Malenia herself. Fast slow burn because I myself have no patience and this was inspired in the middle of the night by a TikTok I saw. [RE-UPLOAD after almost 3 years]

Summary
Malenia is an Empyrean, selected by the Two Fingers as one of the potential successors to Queen Marika. A swordsman of unrivaled strength, and has never known defeat. Despite pursuing the path set before her by the Greater Will, she is destined to decay by birthright, and nothing will ever cease the ruin of the scarlet rot writhing within her, with no one but Miquella the Unalloyed attempting to find a cure. Left to rot by her mother, she places faith in her brother, that his vision for the Lands Between liberates them from the current Golden Order that has forsaken her to a fate of having all she knows and loves wither away by her own affliction.
Or
Malenia, Blade of Miquella, and her story of love, loss and rot, the unbreakable vow between twins seeking to purify the world that cursed them, and the devotion between a demigod and her cherished knight.
