Izuku kissed his fingers and placed a hand over the picture of his mother on the mirror. She was laughing in the photo. It had been her birthday, the cake was in front of her with half the candles blown out. That was mere days before she got sick. She died a few weeks after that. Her death was two months ago, and not yet formally announced to the wider community. It was known among the Evadoris Flight, but until Izuku was formally crowned, her public death announcement was put on hold. The coronation was in two days. He’d have to announce it during the council meeting, unfortunately.
“I miss you, Queen Mother.”

OR: Izuku is the last Jade Dragon on earth, succeeding his mother as ruler of his Flight. Summoned by an emergency council meeting, Izuku's life is thrown into chaos, but hopefully he can get through it, and maybe revitalize his kin in the process.

Haruki kneeld beside his sister, “What is it?”
“Papa got small.”
Haruki inclined his head, in the way dad always said made him look the spitting image of papa, “Huh?”
And then there was a loud high-pitched yell. “DEKU!”
Haruki startled, immediately grabbing his sister, and getting on his feet to investigate the unfamiliar and yet kind of familiar – at least in terms of tone – voice.
A small blond child streaked in front of him, his tiny feet stumbling on – Haruki blinked – the bottom of the shirt his dad was wearing, as he climbed on the couch to shake his pa – Haruki blinked again.
Instead of his papa there was another child; this one dark-haired, eyes round and already wet.
Aiko grabbed Haruki’s face so that he’d turn to her. “Dad got small, too!”
Haruki made a sound, between a whimper and a laugh.
“Dad? Papa?” he called out, tentatively.
The two kids turned to look at him at the same time.
“It’s okay, baby.” The green-haired one said with a wobbly smile.
“HOW IS THIS OKAY, DEKU?” the blond one yelled. “WE TURNED INTO TWO BRATS!”
