Summary
It’s Huntrix’s first Christmas as a throuple, the demons are gone, the Honmoon is secure, and Zoey has decided she’s not going home to Burbank because home is now wherever Mira and Rumi are.
So obviously, she does the logical thing: she introduces her girlfriends to the sacred American tradition of Elf on the Shelf.
Rumi and Mira, world-class idol warriors who have literally fought cosmic evil, immediately assume the elf is haunted. Zoey, professional menace, absolutely does not correct them. What follows is, escalating chaos, emotional breakthroughs no one scheduled, a stakeout that turns into a cuddle pile, accidental group therapy, and just maybe… a truly perfect first Christmas together.

She blinked, squinting in the light with eyes that shifted back and forth like they were searching for the answer. Her fingers brushed against the shimmering patterns along her bicep. She was so used to being careful about showing her arms, about keeping her patterns covered no matter what, that the thought to simply take off a layer to cool down hadn’t even registered to her.
‘I… didn’t even think about it.’

Rumi's still getting used to dressing for the weather rather than for her patterns - the need to cover up has just been drilled into her for so long. Inevitably, this backfires on her.

"Rumi had promised to be more honest and open with them now that she didn’t have anything to hide from them, but that didn’t mean it came easy. A week and a heartfelt song wasn’t going to undo a lifetime of training to shrink herself, to bury all her needs and emotions from sight. She knew it was still hard for her to be vulnerable sometimes. And so Zoey had become much more tuned in to Rumi’s mannerisms, the subtle inflections that gave her away when she was trying to reach out but couldn’t quite push past the overwhelming compulsion to hide.
Which meant that this time Zoey didn’t miss the slight warble in her first syllable, or the barely-there thickness in her voice like her words had stuck in her throat and she’d had to force them out."

Rumi comes across takedown while listening through demos to use for their comeback album, and isn't quite as ready to hear it as she thought she was. Zoey doesn't let her face it alone. Neither does Mira.

Reality is no less apparent than the moment they truly grasp just how gravely they lost in their battle atop the train. The mass of now owner-less belongings scattered throughout the cars being no less than a slap to the face. Without the items, they could've perhaps brushed off the truth. Perhaps there were some empty cars. Their presence though allows for a brutal clarity in reality. Men, women, children. Nobody had been spared in the slaughter. Rumi faltered against the wall of the train, and closed her eyes. She fought against the rising tide of bile in her throat.
Mira and Zoey, two people who previously might've offered her comfort, brushed past her— probably in their own state of shock and horror. There was a deafening silence. Nobody said anything, but the message was loud and clear. It was all her fault.
