Summary
Aaron and Robert are best friends. Aaron is also truly, madly, deeply, stupidly, in love with Robert. Robert doesn’t know this. Aaron’s perfectly fine with that.
He’d thought he would be perfectly fine with all of it forever actually, so long as Robert remained his best mate. He didn’t need anything more from him than that.
But right now, Robert is standing on his doorstep, soaked from the pouring rain, with a split lip and a nasty shiner blooming on his face, and Aaron knows he’ll never be perfectly fine again until he puts whoever did this in the ground.

The woman looks a lot more put together than she did the last time Charity saw her. Immaculate makeup, stylish clothing, her long, dark hair smooth and sleek. She’s gorgeous. Stunning.
She glances around the room before her gaze lands on Charity. The second their eyes lock, one side of her mouth quirks up and she approaches the bar.

Summary
Robert’s been zoning out a lot lately. It’s to be expected, Liam tells Aaron, with everything he’s been through, for his brain to need a few minutes to catch up every now and again. It’s not permanent, and it will get better as long as Robert goes to his therapy sessions and takes his meds.
Aaron wishes that Liam’s conviction was more reassuring to him. But the truth is, he’s terrified. Not so much of the absences, although the sheen of fear behind Robert’s eyes when he comes back to himself is harrowing to say the least, or the nightmares, God knows Aaron’s had enough of those himself to know how to handle them.
What scares him the most is when Robert starts to just… go on autopilot.

"Victoria isn't going to be back until tomorrow," John explains with more of those devilish details he'd flippantly referred to earlier; adapting his plans now that Aaron had interrupted his attempted murder. "So it looks like it's just the three of us here tonight. I need to make sure no one has any thoughts about leaving."
Aaron shares a look with Robert, desperately hoping that it might be seen as a comfort, when John pipes up again.
"And you, dear husband, are going to help me," he says, levelling that last part at Aaron, before reaching over to cruelly yank the oxygen canister out from Robert's feeble grip.

Robert’s been in a coma for a week. Actually, 6 days, 14 hours and just under 20 minutes.
Aaron has barely taken his eyes off of him the whole time, taking up residence in the uncomfortable visitor’s chair by the bedside in the hospital room. He’s only left the room a few times, to shower and occasionally to eat. He would have been kicked out many times by now but Liam had pulled some strings with a hospital administrator he used to work with so he’s allowed to stay.
So he sits, and stares, and cries. And seethes.

“Everyone okay over there?” he asks. The boy seems okay, if maybe a little stunned by the tumble, and Aaron’s about to say as much when the man with him turns to him and Aaron thinks he might have actually swallowed his tongue.
The man is wearing a perfectly fitted peacoat across broad shoulders and black leather gloves, his blond hair is pushed up from his face and his eyes seem like they’re piercing into Aaron’s soul. In short, this stranger is fit. And looks angry, which is somehow also attractive.
“All fine, no thanks to you!” he says, gruffly, easily lifting the boy into his arms. “Maybe next time, keep a closer eye on your kid, huh?” He turns and storms off the ice and leaves Aaron staring after him.

Summary
Aaron wakes up before his alarm, but for once he’s thankful for it. He blinks into full wakefulness and then rolls over to take advantage of the few minutes when Robert’s still asleep, stares at him. At his fiancé. Even just thinking the word brings a smile to his face, a smile that grows wider when Robert shifts a little and the duvet falls to uncover his left hand, engagement ring sitting there, loud and proud.
They both have the day off, and Chas, Liv, Charity and Noah are all headed off to a Christmas fair in Manchester, and Aaron has plans. Plans that involve Robert in this bed for another hour, at least, followed by a fry up that Aaron specifically got all his favourites for. Then they’ll curl up on the couch and watch the Muppets’ Christmas Carol, because Robert’s been dying to show him, and then they’ll go back to bed for a bit. They should have enough time for lunch and a quiet pint together in the Woolie before the rabble get back.
