Merlin's expression was a storm of conflicting emotions. "You're asking me to put my life in your hands," he murmured.
Arthur's eyes never left Merlin's. "I'm asking you to trust me," he said quietly. "To trust that together, we can make a difference."
Merlin took a deep, shaky breath. "Fine," he said, his voice tight. "But if anything happens to me, if your father finds out..."
"It won't," Arthur said firmly, cutting him off. "I'll protect you."
Merlin nodded, his eyes brimming with a mix of gratitude and fear as he squeezed Arthur's hand back. "Okay," he said. "We'll keep doing what we can."

In his boisterous youth, winter had a way of driving Arthur near to insanity as the biting cold turned the training grounds inhospitable for activity. Servants hurried between alcoves and lords cosied up with their bedwarmers, reluctant to part from their comforts. Arthur himself never had one; he never quite liked the idea of another person in his bedchambers.
Now, slipping under the covers sleep-warmed by his consort, Arthur can admit to himself in the privacy of his mind that there was always merit to a distinctly human bedwarmer.

Summary
Young wizard Merlin must move from Scotland to London after the death of his mother. He gets a job with family friend Gaius working at Buckingham Palace where he begins to discover secrets about his family and his destiny. Oh, he also meets Prince Arthur which sort of complicates things.
Prince Arthur is fine. He enjoys reading and football and spending time with friends. He runs a lot. He'll be King one day but whatever. He's fine. Well, apart from his father trying to set him up with every magic user in the world, but he's fine, really. Just fine... Until that skinny, dark-haired, stupidly attractive Scottish boy shows up and throws a whole bucket load of spanners in the works.
Set in an alternate present where magic is common but still illegal in many countries.

Merlin would be more insulted by this fact if he wasn’t so busy trying to juggle his duties, save Arthur's skin from ruthless fashionistas and keep his magic a secret at the same time. Expect appearances by oil-lathered knights, the occasional mad druid, a perverted Will and a mental caretaker who lives in the basement and keeps harping on about coins and destiny.
