Summary
The social hierarchy of Lotus Valley High School was divided by unforgiving borders.

On the rare occasion Fire Lord Zuko shows up at the Beifong Metalbending Academy, and asks Toph to accompany him at some fancy gala, she can’t pretend she didn’t receive his letters (or the erractic heartbeats from him) and agrees to come.
While she tries to ignore the possible implications of his request, she knows something has changed between her and the Fire Lord as of late. As for Zuko, love is blind in the same way Toph is blind.

When the Gaang gathers at the Southern Air Temple to await the birth of Katara and Aang's first child, a well-meaning, passing comment about the "priceless first sight of your baby" cuts Toph deeper than anyone realizes. The question lingered for a few seconds. Zuko was unmoved, and maybe he wished the walls of the hallway would simply absorb it, so that he wouldn't have to answer at all. He even thought that if he stayed quiet—and gave the chamberlain an intimidating enough look—the man might take that as an answer.
The chamberlain shifted slightly. It was working.
But then he straightened, squaring himself to face the Fire Lord properly.
"Do you have someone in mind, Fire Lord Zuko?"
