...although he's done this many times before, when the metal pricks his skin, Dream still lays frozen like an ice sculpture as his heart pounds against his chest.He has sold his vintage leather jacket, his treasured collection of elegant handmade cloaks (there was a theatrical phase, it’s complicated), and most of his books (the shelves of his sparse apartment now hold only a few cheap volumes of blank paper for his sketches). But it wasn’t enough.
Burgess was years ago, but Dream's life still lies in ruins.
He does not like being here. But it seems that this — his body's materials, his very essence — is the only thing of value he has to offer the world. This most basic biological function, the blood pumping through his veins, is all anyone wants of him now.

Summary
Hob should have fucking known Dream, in his Endless lifetime, had learned how to wield such a weapon. Should have known when Dream came prepared with black leather gauntlets up to his elbows and supple black leather pants that would provide protection in addition to range of movement.
He just hadn’t thought… well, that didn’t matter now. Just leave it at that. Hob hadn’t thought.
Hob needs someone to sub in for an edged weapons demo very last minute. He probably should have been suspicious when Dream offered.

Maybe after the Bastille, things went differently (v. 38,283 or so, probably).
The bonds at his wrists were just tight enough to be a little snug, not enough to chafe. And their attachment to the beam overhead tugged at his shoulder joints if he tried to move from the short bench he sat on, but not if he remained still. Less crude than the chains, but more restricting. For a moment, when Crowley stopped time, it hadn’t been clear whether he’d meant to loose those chains.
Aziraphale couldn’t pretend he hadn’t thought about it.

“You do?” Aziraphale said, and hated the hopeful way he said it. “I’ll do it.”
“You...won’t like it.”
“Will it keep me out of prison?”
“Maybe. Maybe the both of us. For now. Ideally.”
“Then yes.”
Crowley’s expression tightened, and Aziraphale wasn’t sure if Crowley wanted to cry, or laugh. “You really, really won’t like it.”
“I’ll like prison less.” He responded plainly.
Crowley’s face twisted into something soft at first, just for a second, before searing into a careful little smirk, and Aziraphale knew that smile, that Cheshire cat smile, much too well to not be cautious.
“Crowley, dear. What are you doing on the floor?”
He cleared his throat. “Angel. Remember when I said you wouldn’t like it? Well, uh, here we are.” His smile grew awkwardly, apologetically, and Aziraphale had a sinking feeling about it.
“Angel. Will you marry me?”
