Summary
Buck hated the unpredictability of it all—the way his brain could speed up until it felt like he was running a marathon on a treadmill no one else could see. There were days his own thoughts scared him, spiraling out of control with no brakes in sight. And then there were the tic attacks—those overwhelming episodes that left him exhausted, nauseous, and often physically ill.
He hated it.
Hated having ADHD. Hated having Tourette’s.
There was no quirky upside. No magical, misunderstood genius buried under the chaos. Just exhaustion. Shame. A desperate need to feel normal for once.
It wasn’t fun.
It wasn’t interesting.
It was fucking hell.
--------
Evan Buckley has spent years hiding his Tourette’s from his team, from his friends, and especially from Eddie. Bobby’s the only one who knows, and Buck intends to keep it that way. He can’t risk losing what he’s finally found—family, belonging… and maybe something more with the man who’s become the center of it all. But when a severe tic attack hits the station, Buck’s secret unravels.—

Summary
They thought they knew Buck.
The funny one. The reckless one. The golden retriever in turnout gear who ran into fires and fought with his heart on his sleeve.
Then one phone call changed everything.
Five moments when the 118 family uncover pieces of Buck’s past—his scars, his secrets, and the soldier buried beneath the surface—and the one time they watch him step back into that world, fully and without apology.
Call sign: Smoke.
Rank: Lieutenant Commander.
And no matter what the Navy or the battlefield tried to take from him, he’s still the man they love.
He’s not one or the other.
He’s always been both.

Buck isn’t a masochist. He’s not. He’s reckless and impulsive, borderline unnecessarily foolhardy at times, but he’s not a masochist. Not anymore. Not, well, he’s…

Summary
Eddie’s here, but he's not, and isn't that worse? At least Bobby is truly gone. At least he's not next to Buck, the closeness haunting him more than the distance would. At least Bobby's death wasn't Buck's fault, unlike this thing with Eddie, and Buck can't change who he is and Eddie hates him for it and that can't be fixed and-

Summary
All he could do was watch and hope.
Of course, hope is a terrible thing. He should’ve learned that lesson by now.
Eddie could only watch in horror, in helplessness, as one final boom released into the air.
The line snapped.
Buck’s eyes widened in horror at Eddie, before quickly changing to sadness. To acceptance.
Buck disappeared under the concrete that came raining down.

Summary
Evan Buckley grew up with one understanding; he wasn’t of value unless he was hurt. That belief fueled all his actions, and turned him into the reckless firefighter he is today. But it had also been festering into something more, turning into this ugly monster deep inside him.
When that belief system begins to feed Bucks low self esteem, and lead to mental health issues he is not equipped to deal with, he doesn’t know what to do. But he’s definitely not going to tell anyone.
He can’t be another thing for people to worry about.
But the team begins to suspect anyways, despite how hard he tried to keep them away. And Buck has no clue how to handle it when they begin to break down the walls he worked so hard to put up.

Summary
His parents both looked shaken, but he couldn’t understand why. He was the one whose entire world got turned upside down, not theirs.
“So, uh,” Buck didn’t know how to do this. He and his parents never talked, “What are you doing here?”
“We came to apologize,” Philip said, “We should have told you about Daniel much sooner. We were lost in our grief, but that wasn’t fair to you. None of it was.”
His parents actually owning up to their mistakes? That was a new one.
“Uh, thank you,” Buck said. He knew he should say more, but he just didn’t know what. This was a positive thing, but that just made it even harder for him to navigate somehow.
“There’s one more thing,” Margaret said, “One more family secret that not even Maddie knows.”
