Juno hasn’t lived around anyone who actually cared or noticed how he was feeling since he lived with Benzaiten. Now he’s living on a very small spaceship with four maddeningly perceptive thieves and Rita, for fuck’s sake. If he drinks till he passes out, or spends a day unable to get out of bed, or jumps at little noises, someone is going to notice. And talk to him about it. It’s frankly unbearable. One by one, the crew discovers some of the trauma Juno carries with him, and Juno tries to get better. (four times the crew notices Juno isn’t okay + one bit of Rita fluff)

Peter looked closer. Juno Steel wouldn't have a faraway and panicked look, let alone tears in his eyes during a scuffle. Something was deeply wrong.

Summary
Peter Nureyev was by no means unfamiliar with nightmares. It was part of the reason he and Juno had started sharing a bed so quickly after they smoothed things over; both of them slept better.
Still, shaking, screaming nightmares were much more common for Juno- though they were far less frequent now than they had been.
Peter’s were- better didn’t seem like the right word, but less violent, maybe. Most nights he’d manage to fall back asleep without waking Juno- a notoriously light sleeper- at all, just by grounding himself with the feeling of Juno pressed up against him and the slow, even rhythm of his breathing.
But this was different. This was worse.or, a study on why compartmentalization Isn't That Great, Actually.

Juno’s whole body tenses.
“I want—” His hands flex at his sides, then become fists. “God dammit, I want you to be angry at me, all right?”
Peter frowns. “I am angry at you, Juno.”
Juno pivots to face him. “Not really! Not like—that’s not—I need you to—” He gestures wildly at the world around them. “To yell at me! To scream! To—to…”
Peter remembers the look on Juno’s face when he woke up. He says, barely above the wind, “Juno. You know I’d never…”
“I know!” Juno snaps. He squares his shoulders—and then all at once the tension drains from him like a popped balloon. His arms go limp.
“…I know,” he says.

Adjusting to the ship is hard, Juno thinks as he washes the breakfast dishes in the tiny ship’s kitchen. It’s soothing, to scrub and rinse and dry and put away. He can adjust to chores, adjust to teamwork and duties and making the whole functional even if the part isn’t. Adjusting to meals is harder.

Summary
Something in Juno’s chest twists and the feeling is somewhere between comforting and terrifying. It’s… nice, he supposes, to be cared for like that, but he’s gone so long without it that now he’s not quite sure what to do with it anymore. On one hand, he doesn’t want to be a burden, doesn’t want to force someone- anyone, really, but especially Peter, when everything between them still feels so fragile sometimes- to take on his bad days on top of their own. On the other, though, Juno’s sure he's on the brink of falling apart with the weight of everything he thought he’d finally managed to get past suddenly crashing back down on top of him, and he’d rather like someone- anyone, again, but especially Peter, to hold him together.

“I’m not like you. I can’t just… file shit away. I don’t want to, anyway. Not this,” Juno says quietly. “Besides… if it were me, if I were doing something that endangered myself, I know you wouldn’t be able to let that go either. Hell, that’s not a hypothetical. You have been there, and you tried to stop me.”
Nureyev finally pauses, eyes flashing. “Don’t you dare, Juno Steel. Don’t compare you locking yourself in a room with a bomb to me missing a few meals.”
“Oh, yeah? Why shouldn’t I? If you’d fainted somewhere else, if I hadn’t been with you… you could’ve been killed. I could’ve lost you today. So don’t you dare act like I’m blowing this out of proportion.”
Nureyev doesn’t reply. He just scoffs and continues walking down the mineshaft.
And that’s when the rumbling begins.
