    Summary

Krista Lenz. That was who sat there. Not Historia Reiss. Krista was easier. Krista was palatable.

Krista would say yes when asked on a date. It was not that Historia lacked the capacity to refuse. She understood the mechanics of refusal well enough—the shape of the word no upon the tongue, the subtle withdrawal of a smile, the firm yet graceful boundary that could be drawn if one wished to preserve dignity without inciting conflict. She was not weak, but she was new, and new things, she had learned, required gentleness. Required compliance. Required the careful cultivation of impressions, as though one were arranging flowers for strangers whose tastes were unknown but whose judgment was absolute.

Reiner Braun had asked her out with an earnestness that bordered on reverence, and she—Krista—had agreed with a smile that felt like porcelain settling over her skin. It would make things easier.

    ____

Shortly after discharging from the psychiatric hospital, Historia Reiss adapts to life as Krista Lenz. She's kind, soft spoken, and doesn't argue. However, when she meets Ymir Braun, who seems all too familiar, things change in her miserable life.

    Summary

“How do I repent?” he repeated, quieter this time. “I know what I did was necessary. God told me so but I know that I am still supposed to repent when I sin. I do not understand which part was the sin.”

Armin's mouth went dry at his gaze. There was an awful sincerity in his expression, a genuine belief that Armin possessed some knowledge inaccessible to ordinary people. Bertholdt had constructed an entire theology around his own experiences, and somehow Armin had become one of its central figures.

“I don't know,” Armin whispered. “I told you, I'm not an angel.”

“I know what you say.” Bertholdt's voice remained remarkably gentle. “But God tells me otherwise.”

The silence between them stretched until Bertholdt spoke again.

“Tell me, how can I repent for these thoughts?”
    ____
Armin Arlert’s first mistake was taking notice in the church boy, Bertholdt Hoover, who is entirely convinced he is an angel sent for him.

    Summary

Slingshot nodded faintly, still trying to steady himself. “Thank you for tonight, Coil.”

Coil didn’t answer right away. Then, softer than before, he said, “I love you.”

“..You know I can’t say that back,” Slingshot whispered.

    “Then lie.”

    “I love you more, Coil.”

    Summary

    Slingshot saw the shoreline.

Clear as if he were standing there again.

The rocks were uneven beneath his feet, the ocean stretching endlessly beside them, waves crashing in steady, rhythmic breaths. The air had been salty, sharp, alive.

Coil had been laughing. Not the tight, restrained smirk he’d worn in later years. Not the distant, unreadable expression he’d learned to hide behind.

“You seriously tellin’ me ya never been out here?” Coil had said, walking ahead of him, arms spread slightly as if balancing against the wind. “What kinda life s’that?”

Slingshot—back then, not even Slingshot yet, just a kid trying to figure out where he fit—had shrugged, uncertain. “I just never saw the point.”

Coil had turned then, walking backward along the rocks, grin sharp and challenging.

“That’s because you haven’t seen it with me.”

    ___

Seven years after Coil's unexplained absence, Slingshot doesn't give up on searching for him, but what is a person if not memories? This piece of work includes graphic depictions of medical malpractice, torture, self harm, suicide, and post traumatic episodes; read with discretion.

    Summary

Slingshot’s eye twitched. “You do that on purpose.”

Coil’s grin turned smug. “Do what?”

    “Piss me off.”

“Only because you look better when you’re annoyed.” Coil grinned. “Your shoulders get all tense and veins pop.”

Slingshot stared at him in utter disbelief.

Coil, for his part, looked deeply pleased with himself.

The air between them tightened until it felt like every word was a form of contact. Not touch, not exactly, but close enough to make both of them aware of their own bodies: the ache in Slingshot’s shoulders after his set, the solid pull of his back, the heat in Coil’s chest from too many reps and too much smirking. The gym around them faded down into background noise, reduced to the distant sound of weights and music and someone cursing at a treadmill.

    ___

Slingshot and Coil were both strong. They were both stubborn. They were both pretending the other wasn’t getting under their skin in a way that had absolutely nothing to do with gym rivalry and everything to do with the fact that neither of them liked losing, especially not to someone this attractive, this irritating, this impossible.

    Summary

“Who’s the cutest in the world?” she asked, her tone teasing, her eyes searching his face. “You are!”

Hakari huffed out a laugh, shifting slightly beneath her to pull her closer, his hands steadying her without thinking. “Nah,” he said, his voice quieter now, steadier. “You’re the cutest. Cutest girl in the entire world.”

Kirara’s reaction came quick, her shoulders tensing before she leaned back just enough to put space between them, her face flushing despite herself. “Kya! You’re embarrassing, Kin!” she protested, her hand coming up to shove lightly at his face.

The movement landed a little harder than intended, and Hakari recoiled slightly, bringing a hand up to his nose with a wince. “Yeah,” he muttered, the word half-laugh, half-complaint.

    Summary

Satoru didn’t understand it—not fully, not in the way he used to understand everything about Suguru without asking. There had always been a kind of quiet fluency between them, something unspoken but reliable as breath. Now it felt like trying to read a language he used to know by heart and suddenly couldn’t pronounce.

Brokeback hadn’t changed, not really. The same long stretch of land rolling under a sky too wide to belong to anyone. The same wind dragging itself through the grass like it had somewhere to be but didn’t mind taking its time. Even the fire burned the same—low, steady, crackling in a way that filled silence without quite breaking it.

But Suguru had, or maybe it was just that he’d started acting like he had.

    Summary

Mourning, he wondered distantly. Is that what this is meant to be?

The question hovered unanswered, suspended between inhale and exhale. It didn’t fit. It never had. Fushiguro Megumi had been gone for decades now. The sharpness of loss should have dulled by this point, worn smooth by repetition and time until it became manageable, distant—something you carried without thinking about the weight of it. Grief was supposed to have an expiration date. At least, that was what people said. At least, that was what Yuuji had told himself when he realized he was still coming here long after it had become socially acceptable to stop.

    Grieving, then?

That didn’t sit right either. Megumi had died well, as far as sorcerers went. Peacefully. Surrounded by voices that loved him. Yuuji had been there—close enough to feel the warmth leave his hand, close enough to hear the steady certainty in Megumi’s final breath. There had been no unfinished business. No last-minute confessions clawing their way out. No dramatic regrets demanding absolution.

    His ending had been complete.

    Summary

The waterline lapped just under his ribs when he shifted, knees bumping faintly against Coil’s calf every time either of them breathed too deep. The porcelain trapped heat like a sin, steam clinging to his skin, curling around his horns, fogging his thoughts until everything felt dull and loud at the same time. He sat angled away on principle alone—spine to the fiberglass, shoulders hunched like if he folded in far enough he might disappear into himself.

Didn’t work. Not like he expected that it would.

His hands were occupied with the cigar Coil had passed him earlier, still unlit, still accusing. He rolled it between his fingers again and again, paper rasping softly under his thumb. He told himself he hated cigars. Told himself he was only holding it because handing it back would be weird.

        Everything was weird.
