Summary
In this AU fic, Hell thinks the demon Crowley isn’t evil enough to merit the title of demon. As punishment, they turn him mortal, and if he wants his old job back with his powers and immortality, he’s got to seduce and cause the Fall of some angel named Aziraphale, who is serving as a campus chaplain, running a group for queer youth. Crowley thinks the assignment will be easy, until he meets the angel and his students, and discovers the kind of found family that he’s always wanted. There’s just one little problem: Crowley is a terrible danger to them all.

Summary
The ache is a nearly constant thing, these days.
Aziraphale can distract himself from it for a while, lose himself in a book, in some film he’s seen a hundred times before. Sometimes he doesn’t think about it at all. For a few minutes his chest isn’t hollow and rotted through with grief and loneliness.

“Here’s some Wilde for you,” said Josh, sliding his hand upwards. “The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.”...Josh’s hand was at the crease of Aziraphale’s thigh. It gave a rough squeeze. Oh. Oh no.
“No, really, I’m flattered, but I don’t -“ Aziraphale was starting to get desperate. Some excuse. Anything to shake this human off. His heart was beating fast, his hands began to tremble.
“I think you do,” leered Josh. “Look at you. Don’t resist, Zira. Resist it, and your soul grows sick with longing for the things it has forbidden to itself.”
“Joshua, I am not interested, you insufferable man…” Aziraphale trailed off as he looked around, frantic now. He looked to the bar, where a man – or something man-shaped in tight black pants - was pocketing his wallet and grabbing the bottle of scotch from the counter. Aziraphale swallowed, watching as Crowley began to make his way back over to the table.
“I have a boyfriend,” blurted Aziraphale.----
Aziraphale and Crowley go drinking at pub trivia when a man from another team takes an interest in Aziraphale. Crowley is not impressed. Shenanigans ensue.

Getting an angel and demon to admit their feelings for each other really shouldn’t be a part of a snake’s job description, Antoinette mused, but she’d be damned if she didn’t do it anyway. If they speak one more word on the subject of star-crossed lovers or some other whatnot, she’s going to strangle someone, and it won’t just be a mouse.

Warlock couldn't help being a little underwhelmed by Soho. There was nothing there that really struck him.
Except that bookshop. That weird little street corner that didn’t match up at all with the bars and clubs all around it. That place was interesting. The paint was chipping, and the windows were too dusty to see through, but it felt… safe, sort of. A calm little patch of quiet at the center of London’s hustle and bustle. Something about it was… almost familiar.

In an attempt to save himself from an untimely death, Anthony goes about his life as if he wasn't currently suffering from memory loss. It really is too bad he can't figure out if his stunning partner is trying to kill him or not. Going on a date with him couldn't hurt, right?

“Do you think perhaps you could come over to the bookshop?” Aziraphale asked, “I would so love to see you, dear.”
“Yeah I- no!” Anthony nearly shouted and then clamped his hand over his mouth.
“No? Why ever not?”
“I can’t,” Anthony scrambled for what to say, “I’ve got-”
‘Diarrhea’ was on the tip of his tongue, but then Anthony caught a glimpse of his reflection in the black phone screen and blurted, “-an eye condition.”

Aziraphale blanched. “Crowley! Please. The last time we argued it almost led to the apocalypse and the time before that I didn’t see you for over one hundred years.”
“And whose bloody fault were both of those?” he snapped.
Aziraphale froze. “Mine, dear boy,” the angel replied simply and sincerely. He inhaled deeply, gathering himself. “Which is why I refuse to let it happen again.” His eyes were pleading, his expression serious as he reached out slowly and let his hand land gently on Crowley’s shoulder.
The demon flinched and Aziraphale recoiled, his face filled with hurt.
Crowley’s jaw clenched. “Well, maybe it’s my turn to be unreasonable.”
In which the only way Crowley can be saved from a demonic curse is if his angel admits feelings of true love. But there's no way Aziraphale could ever possibly feel that way about Crowley...

“Oh,” Gabriel’s eyes widened, hand coming to rest upon his chest. The smugness left his face, instantly replaced with realization and a hint of horror in his eerie, violet eyes. He was quiet for a long, unbearable pause.
“Uh, what?” Crowley asked, lifting his head.
Gabriel was staring at Aziraphale, looking positively astounded. “I feel it. I, this has been around you for a long time, but I feel it even more now. I guess because he’s actually here with you.”
Aziraphale shifted on his feet anxiously, dread in the pit of his stomach. “What on earth are you talking about?”
“You love him,” Gabriel said, almost in awe. It wasn’t an accusation, but a statement of fact.
Crowley’s jaw dropped with an audible intake of breath and his sunglasses slid down the bridge of his nose. He whipped around to him.
Aziraphale wanted to bolt.

Aziraphale can feel love– the love for things, for places, for the people around him. He can feel that Crowley loves, too. He loves the Bentley and his plants and the Earth.
But never once does Aziraphale feel any love from Crowley for him.
Which would be fine, of course, if not for the fact that Aziraphale loves Crowley like it’s the only thing he knows how to do.
