Behind him, he heard Scott sigh, and then rush forward as well, chasing after him.

He climbed the stairs that Lizzie had painstakingly built, avoiding pitfalls and crumbling edges, passed the parrots at the front of their mountain, and then pushed through the bamboo and cherry trees to reach their secret passage deep into the earth. He had to find her. He couldn't risk losing anyone else.
He'd ran too fast to even think, to check the base for traps, to even look around for Scar's body. There wasn't time to hesitate. All Jimmy knew was that his teammate had called for him, and he had to answer.

Lizzie felt herself hit the deck, and then slide, and she tried to grab for Joel's hand but couldn't quite reach him. It took a few seconds for her to realize that the boat had fully tipped sideways. Just before she lost consciousness, she register the fact that she was falling. Then the water came crashing down.

There was little reason to enter this new dimension, especially in these particularly dangerous circumstances, but Martyn was determined to be the first, Pearl was ready for a little chaos, and Skizz was easily peer pressured. So, instead of searching for their soulmates or gearing up, they created a portal and risked their lives. It seemed so insignificant at first, but one small stone dropped into a calm body of water can still cause ripples.

Scott was just feeling a bit sick, but that was something he could help with. This was curable, just a simple fever. So why did the idea of entering Scott's room make him feel so afraid?

He felt himself growing icy cold with rage - and maybe it was because Martyn had betrayed him, or maybe it was that Martyn had tried to kill him with fire, which would have hurt him infinitely more as a siren. But, to be honest, the thing that made him the angriest was that Martyn was underestimating him. Because Scott wasn't a good survivor because of impressive gear or fancy PVP skills. Scott survived because he was resourceful, strategic, and good at thinking on his feet. And Martyn had apparently forgotten that.
