Summary
For the past several months, Higuchi has been stopping by the shop weekly, every Friday after she leaves work, to buy a treat for her younger sister. Margaret had seen her from afar prior to that—she’s the manager of the flower shop across the street, so they frequent many of the same places—but it wasn’t until Higuchi started stopping by Zelda Confections that Margaret actually had a real conversation with her.
She would like to say she fell gracefully, but it was more like she tripped into an infatuation she didn’t have a label for until Mark saw the two of them interact, and afterwards said, Wow, you really are down bad for that girl. I thought John was exaggerating, but if anything, I think he undersold it.
At which point Margaret had half a crisis, decided to push it off until after her shift, and then had a full crisis once she got home.

Gin’s eyes widen in horror. They hold the lizard closer, shaking their head vehemently.
“You don’t want the Agency’s help?”
Gin signs something with one hand. When Lucy just stares at them blanky, they sign it again but slower:

A soft warmth spills through Akiko’s chest, and she knows it has nothing to do with the coat now wrapped around her body. It’s something born from the feeling of belonging—of knowing the Agency is her family, and even as it grows and changes, its core of harmony and unity will always remain the same. Kunikida is right; they look out for each other in all circumstances, not just the life-threatening ones.

Summary
Perhaps it should be concerning, how easy it was for Chuuya to let him into their life. They are fundamentally different in many ways, and their allegiances are pledged to opposite sides—Kunikida has walked in the light for his entire life while Chuuya lives contentedly in the dark. But despite their differences, there are many similarities between the two of them as well. They complement each other far better than Chuuya could have ever expected.
It was easy to let Kunikida in because Chuuya saw some of themself in him. And it was easy to let him stay because he wanted to.
There are very few people who stay in Chuuya’s life—whether by their own choice, or because they were taken away. But now, eight months after Chuuya kissed Kunikida for the first time, he’s still by their side.
