“I have to admit,” said Mira with a smirk, “your new duet is going to be a banger.” She flicked her freshly dyed magenta hair over her shoulder. The sheen of the strands caught the glow from the dimmed stage lights.
“When you guys debut the song tonight, everyone will love it. I know it,” Zoey added with an enthusiastic nod. She was dressed in cargo pants and a comfortable black shirt, not nearly as ruffled looking from her own practice session as Jinu thought she ought to have looked.
Jinu’s mouth was dry. “But—”
From beside him, a soft, melodic laugh interrupted his chaotic thoughts. He glanced to his right, seeing Rumi as if for the first time.

It’d be fine if the voice were her own—normal, even—or a song on loop or some scene replaying. But of course it’s not that simple! Because she’s solved one problem, a new one naturally has to appear.
Get the truffle flavored chips, Jinu’s voice says like a thought. They were really good last time.

Summary
After going back in time to stop a curse from destroying the past, Huntri/x returned to a world different from the one they remembered. The Sunlight Sisters never break up. Rumi parents never died. She never needs to hide her patterns…
But In this world Rumi never gets to meet Jinu, because the Saja Boys got their souls back when Huntri/x was in the past, getting the chance to go to afterlife and reincarnate.
So all Rumi has of him was the memory of a life that isn't her anymore. Or so she thought, until Jinu showed up at her door.--

“Hey, I’m back.” Rumi says as a way of greeting. Jinu startles, then tries to pretend like he didn’t. His reply is cut off as he stares at the four bags of takeout in her hands.
“Uh.” His voice takes a high pitched and strained edge. “Is that… All food?”
“Yep.” Rumi waves him over to the blanket she laid out earlier. She decided they would eat outside after seeing how obviously overwhelmed Jinu seemed by their living room alone. Between the obvious display of wealth and unthinkable technology, the roof seemed like the better option. Still a lot but… Better.
The Jinu in front of her isn’t the one she knows. Not exactly. He’s… One she’s only heard of. The one Jinu himself hates.
Rumi can tell he’s the one from the palace. His clothes are on the nicer side, though still plain. He’s cleaner. Still thin but his cheeks are more filled out. He seemed to think she was yangban or royalty earlier. She’s not sure he’s stopped, actually.
(Or Ending up with a version of Jinu from 400 years ago has Rumi at a loss for what to do. But she can start by feeding the poor guy.)

“‘I wanted to set you free’?” Jinu reads the words out loud slowly, as if that will help him make sense of them. It doesn’t work— he still feels as confused and mildly concerned as he did before. “I know you said the words can have mysterious and unexpected meanings but this just sounds…” He grimaces. “Tragic.”
His mother laughs to herself, shaking her head. “You can be so pessimistic. It could mean anything.”
“They’re last words.” Jinu traces over the neat writing on his wrist. The color is vibrant, almost blue-ish, which only further makes it sound like his Soulmate is probably a yangban girl. And that makes Jinu think the context behind the words means it’s a relationship that won’t end well for him. “I’m not seeing any other explanation here.”
(Or Soulmates have the last words they say to each other written on their wrists. Rumi and Jinu know how this will end, or at least, they think they do.
Funnily enough, Soul Bonds don’t account for the nature of demons.)

It’s not an unfair assumption, but it’s wrong all the same. Jinu sucks in a breath and pulls out his wallet. Rumi tilts her head as she watches him search and locate the card in question. He slips out and promptly offers it to her.
Rumi’s eyes widen and she snatches it from his hands. “This… It looks real.”
“It is.”
“You… How long have you had this?”
“About a month or so?”
Rumi looks up at him, somehow disbelieving and contemplative at the same time. “You went out and got your license? On your own?” A nod. She looks curious now. “Why?”
(Or Jinu secretly gets his license. He reveals this fact to Rumi on a road trip.)

Summary
Jinu’s not a full Hunter and he never will be, but the Honmoon likes the way he sings just enough that Jinu can actually be of use to his village— to his family— for the first time in… Forever, probably. So he signs up to guard the southeast side from dusk ‘til dawn because it’s the hours nobody else wants and spends his nights humming to himself, alone with his thoughts, and trying not to think about anything that makes that hot, sour feeling curl in his gut.
He sees demons sometimes— even if they know there are guards, demons still like to try to sneak past under the cover of night— but more often than not, it’s quiet. The times where Jinu has to actually fight are few and far in between.
Usually, anyways. But for the last three weeks, Jinu has occasionally had to face one, lone, very persistent demon from getting in the village. Not every day, but often enough that Jinu isn’t looking forward to seeing her.
(Or partial-Hunter Jinu is one of the only things standing between demon Rumi from getting what she wants— whatever it is that she wants, anyway. But Jinu has a secret, and secrets have a way of coming out.)

“You know,” Rumi pulls away from the holographic lock with a huff, “When they offered me a ‘Highly advanced artificial intelligence’ to implant into a chip in my head and assured me how ‘Helpful’ you’d be and how much easier my tasks would become in the process, they really failed to mention how chatty and needy you could be.”
A pleasant little buzz ripples through her head. Rumi has quickly learned that’s his version of a laugh.
“Have you considered I just have a lot of helpful things to say?”
“I would love to hear what makes half the things you say ‘Helpful’ in your eyes.” Rumi snarks back. She doesn’t need a physical projection to know he’s smirking at her now.
“Do you want help or not? You haven’t actually answered me.”
(Or Rumi is an agent and infiltrator, top in her field. Jinu is a highly advanced artificial intelligence, recently implanted in her head to aid her in missions for the past three weeks. Though, Rumi can’t help but feel like he’s more than just a computer program…)

“We need to talk, and we will later.” Rumi tells him very seriously. “But right now, I just really want to kiss you until you forget your own name. Can I do that?”
Jinu abruptly thinks maybe his head isn’t back in working order like he thought it was. “Uh.” Jinu utters, eloquently. “Could you repeat that?”
“I want to kiss you,” Rumi repeats, slowly, enunciating each word so it’s unmistakable what she’s saying. “Until you forget your own name. Can I do that?”
So, apparently Jinu did hear right. But he’s not any less confused. “Why?” He blurts out before he can stop himself.
“Do you not want that?”
“No, no—” Jinu says quickly before the offer is rescinded. Because there’s not a world in which Jinu is not interested in that. He just… Doesn’t understand. “I’m a little confused how we got here, is all.”
(Or Rumi sees the slow burn romance trope and lights a molotov cocktail instead.)

Summary
“You’re not supposed to touch them, you know.” Jinu’s tone carries a distinctly amused edge. Despite the mild mannered warning, he stays right where he is, legs crossed and hands in his lap.
“You’re not stopping me.” Rumi points out. She still has enough manners to pause and see how serious he’s being. One of the tails brushes against her hand, too deliberate to be anything but permission. Her smile warms and Rumi resumes her gentle strokes through enchantingly silky fur.
“There are gumiho out there who would curse anyone who attempted to touch their tails.”
“But not you.”
“I think being stuck with me is probably enough of a curse.” Jinu jokes. Rumi looks up in order to send him a flat look that perfectly communicates it was not funny, then resumes her attention on the tails.
(Or Jinu wasn’t just transformed to be any old demon, but a Gumiho. Rumi only learns after the fact, not that she minds.)
