Summary
If Hong Lu wanted to accompany him for part of his journey, so be it. Past the occasional annoyance, Heathcliff didn’t mind the company, and didn’t mind Hong Lu’s willingness to pay for whatever, whenever.
A walking bank, yes, that’s what he was. Nothing more, and nothing less.
A bounty, worth an unbelievable amount of money, is placed on Prince Jia Baoyu’s head. While Heathcliff works to find and kill the prince to claim his prize, Hong Lu joins him on his adventure.
Wait, what?

Summary
Just for a second, Heathcliff blinked, his hands now wrapped around Hong Lu's neck by his own will — and he didn't want to let go.
"There." Hong Lu muttered, like he expected this to happen. "You can hurt me if you'd like." He spoke, softly, barely even a whisper unless someone were close enough to hear.
"Fuck's sake—why would I want to—?!" Heathcliff yelled, but didn't remove his hands as Hong Lu pressed the knuckles with the tips of his fingers further.
"For what I said."
"You're a fucking lunatic."
Heathcliff tries to confront Hong Lu on his life experiences, it doesn't seem that he's very keen on expressing them normally, though.

Summary
Sinner #1 was once as aloof as he was, but unlike him, he still wanted to navigate that complex maze of human connections which felt pointless to Hong Lu at that time. Still, Hong Lu wished to see him soar. Wanted to see just how beautiful the expansion of his wings were.
“You say that you’re not trying to, but I feel pretty flattered ~ ”
“Ah, well - “
Hong Lu’s hand gently rests on Yi Sang’s pale face, absorbing the rest of his sentence. His lips part and close again. It feels automatic in the way his relaxed face leans into the touch.
Hong Lu (re)discovers that physical touches are good way to express his new found feelings.

When you stare,
I see a winged me within that glare.
But, beyond the jade,
More remains behind the masquerade.Shattered mirrors,
Yet I've never seen you clearer.
Have you learned,
You are what I yearn?Reflections always show you who you are, or who you can be, without any of the veneers of actual character. That is why mirrors are loved by few, hated by most. They speak truth, and only truth. But perhaps, all the mirror needs is a different angle and color to see the beauty within yourself.

After Dante’s PDA makes a last minute decision to go on vacation (read: technical difficulties), the Sinners are stuck with a Yi Sang and Hong Lu that… maybe shouldn’t be near each other.
And not for the reasons they’d expect.

Summary
His reserved nature reminded Heathcliff of his beloved’s increasingly passive nature as she grew older. His smile and eyes held the same patience and faux understanding as hers. The way he leaned against the window while brushing his hair in the morning reminded Heathcliff of early mornings spent watching his beloved in the garden.
He hated every single one connection his mind forced him to make.
In the City, everyone is born with a red thread, only visible to them, that connects them to their one and true partner. A few days ago, Heathcliff’s thread led back to the gloomy manor of Wuthering Heights. Now, it led elsewhere.

Summary
She really was so strong, Hong Lu mused to himself, watching her instead of the trembling wall they were facing that began to lower, she always had been. The trails of tears she had tried to wipe away didn’t make her look or seem any less capable and steadfast, despite what Grandmother had taught him.
The wall behind them continued to slowly lower. Before it could even reach the midway point, though, a giant centipede — nearly 2 feet wide — crawled over the gap in the wall. The two venomous claws at its front were the most prominent feature, followed by the large eyes. It stared at the two of them before lunging.
In a maze-like game during the second round of the Family Hierarch Evaluation, Hong Lu and Daiyu find themselves isolated from the rest of the group. Two people, so deeply in love with one another, forbidden from living life side by side.

“Hong Lu was, entirely and thoroughly, incapable of love. Incapable of being loved. He didn’t love Baochai — she had proposed to him, and he had agreed because his mother had wished it to be so. Hong Lu felt completely empty, his heart and love buried and disintegrated in the pavilion. It wasn’t that he couldn’t feel love – with just a single glance at Daiyu, he was sure that he had some weak semblance of feeling love – it was just that he couldn’t do anything with it. There was no use to following such silly instincts, especially when the end result would always be the same.”

Summary
Newly ten years old, Jia Baoyu already knows that there’s very little he can do to change the world around him. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t wish things were different though. So when a venture with his Grandmother takes him into the fallen La Manchaland, Jia Baoyu decides to try and help someone, one last time.
Don Quixote of La Manchaland has spent the last two hundred years dwelling on all his failures, and has come to the only logical conclusion: That his nature as a bloodfiend prevents any manner of change, and that his dream had been nothing but a fantasy. With his family dead, he has resigned himself to the same fate; only to end up living with a small human child who still has a dream of his own.
Maybe they can both learn something from each other.
(Or: Jia Baoyu dreams, Jia Mu schemes, and Don Quixote relearns what it means to try.)

Summary
“At least I still look more human than animal,” Heathcliff quickly changed course, “I’d hate to have these ugly sights coming out of my head.”
For emphasis, Heathcliff knocked his index and middle knuckles on one of the Reindeer’s antlers.
The Reindeer screamed a painful sound, instinctively jerking himself away from Heathcliff’s touch. The sound grated against the Reindeer’s throat and against Heathcliff’s ears. Moving back so suddenly, the Reindeer lost balance and his body hit the floor in an inelegant manner that seemed like it didn’t suit him.
Heathcliff retracted his hand, as though he had been the one to get hurt.
Heathcliff falls head over heels for an irritable Reindeer from a different Pack despite all the signs that he shouldn’t. In doing so, he falls into a rabbit hole he’s determined to get both himself and his Reindeer out of.

Summary
Something has been bothering Heathcliff. Been bothering him for a while now; gnawing away at his gray matter until his mind can conjure nothing else, and that something has a bright jade eye and a ditzy, ignorant smile.
Hong Lu goes out of his way to extend a bastion of friendship. Heathcliff gravely misunderstands.

“ He’s being irrational. Crazy, even. He knows this. He knows Hong Lu has done nothing to invoke this searing anger, so hot it burns through every single one of his senses. After all, this is the same Hong Lu who looks at him with bright, expectant eyes after cracking a joke. The same man who points out constellations and planets to him when their work draws later into the night than expected. The same man who wears a radiant smile no matter who or what tries to tear it away from him. Who persists and persists and persists on treating him like a friend, even when he’s made it clear that he’s not.
But he knows well enough to look past all that. To look past the epidermis and into the dark, rotted flesh of the heart that all nest-dwellers have. If he never lets down his guard, builds a thick wall around himself that no one can ever hope to break through, then maybe it can be enough to hold him steady when all’s said and done. When Hong Lu quits seeing him as an equal.”

“It just doesn’t make sense,” Heathcliff said, frustratedly, currently in the jet that was taking them to the 15th race venue.
“Heathcliff, I swear if you’re about to talk about the Jia again–” Ishmael started, interrupted by Heathcliff talking about Baoyu again.
If a star’s light falters, does it still belong in the sky?

Throughout 20 races spread out over a year, Heathcliff struggles both with his own issues, and with taking down his greatest rival of the season: Jia Baoyu of Jia Racing.

Summary
How many loved ones are you going to collect, oh child? Dear dear, do you not know any better?
Or: Newly promoted Thumb Soldato Sinclair meets Cinq East member Don Quixote. Their story unfolds as such, through his eyes, and the All Knowing's gaze.

“Many months ago, when the child found the Thumb, he knew he had found his home; their words spoke to him, relied upon him the knowledge that he had a way to make things right. In the Thumb, he took that little boy, fed him to the barrel of guns, as it was only right to do. And in the blazing fire, he swore he would repent; either he became the strongest, burying that sinful part of himself, or he would die trying, allowing no further harm to pass on to any more loved ones.
Someone of the world of light could never understand that message. Because those of that world have never sinned.
In front of that sun that burned so bright, the child lowered his head. He was not ashamed, but he was apologetic. How could he explain the horrors that he had experienced, the sin that he had stained his hands with? How do you explain to the sun the concept of a black hole?”

“Should I safely assume that this is no longer the case? Will you stay grounded and walk with your fellows old and new?” Yi Sang asks, seemingly captivated by the droplet on his finger.
“I’m sure you already have your answers. You know my true heart, don’t you?”
Hong Lu can feel that sorrow chipping away and crumbling down to fuel that small flickering flame in his chest. With Yi Sang’s cozy smile fanning it into something bigger, Hong Lu feels incredibly warm.
And loved.

Hong Lu leans against the railing beside Heathcliff, closing his eyes as a light breeze picks up in his hair and gently lets it fan out behind him. In the process, a few stray blossom petals find themselves entrapped within that web of strands, though the man pays them no mind.
After a short pause, the other speaks. ‘No, I don’t think I do.’”

“Heathcliff isn’t close enough to make out the entire situation, the other man’s head is laid down on the table and his hair is splayed out all over it, which is certainly…unusual. He thinks maybe he should turn around and leave him be for the moment, but he’s already made it this far—and if Hong Lu’s fallen asleep, then he should probably get him up, yeah?
Heathcliff walks over to him and places a hand on his shoulder, shaking him a bit. ‘Hey, the hell are you—‘ he starts, but he feels his breath catch in his throat as Hong Lu jolts and spins around to look up at him, with puffy eyes and wet cheeks. The two of them stare at each other for a minute in this awkward silence, before Hong Lu quickly begins to wipe at his face, clearing his throat, returning to a sort of serenity that isn’t unnatural of him but still isn’t quite all there.”

Hong Lu lowered his voice. ‘Dante, I need to go home.’”

Hong Lu has not left his room in a long time. It is one of those many things that, for him, is not allowed. It is almost a mercy when there is only pain and bad news outside, but it finds its way in nonetheless.

“Still, he wonders. He hasn’t been able to see the outside since he entered this room, and he has no idea how long it’s been. All he wants to know is if the flowers have fallen yet in the garden that used to be theirs.
With hardly a thought, he asked Dai-yu. Surely, she’d keep up on the matter of the flowers falling. She smiled, gorgeously as always, and leaned over, as if to tell him a secret.
‘The flowers will be unburied, this year. They will always be unburied now. You buried me instead, don’t you remember?’”
