    Sister Lily told you about it once - the tragedy of Icarus - who was too smart and too arrogant for his own good and paid dearly for it. He was someone who was considered brilliant for his times. People did not appreciate this, and thus he was punished, but he used his intelligence to escape using waxed wings he’d built with his uncle. However, instead of running to safety, he chose instead to fly towards the sun. The wax that held his wings together couldn’t handle the heat, and thus, was melted, destroying his wings and sending Icarus to his doom. The others couldn’t fathom as to why Icarus did such a foolish thing. He must’ve known he would die from it.

    You knew why.

    The unfamiliar voice startles Shouta from his daze, and he drops the ink covered folder in his hands to reach for his capture weapon instead, snapping his gaze up and curling his shoulders forward in a stance that will give him ample opportunity to go on either the offensive or defensive depending on what type of threat he’s dealing with-

    He freezes. Swallows. Blinks.

    The lights in the classroom are dim, and the sunlight that normally streams in through the windows is nowhere to be seen. It’s nearly pitch-black outside, clearly far later than he typically ever finds himself still in the building, though why he’s here he can’t quite recall.

    His students are gone, each and every desk abandoned in favor of their warm, welcoming, safe dorm rooms where they can study and socialize and sleep without the stresses of the world on their shoulders.
    Each and every desk, save one, that is.

He should just leave it to the pros, someone who’s strong and has a better chance at saving than he does. Besides, he reasons, it’s not like he’s particularly close with Sasaki and Iguchi in the first place.

    But, his mind whispers, this type of death wouldn’t be proper.

    He bends his knees.

    Everyone dies, something that’s cementing in his brain.

    He lets out a breath and jumps.

    But the least he could do is guide them toward a proper death. Because this, this is unnatural and cruel and just wrong.

    Some part of Izuku wants to scoop Tomura up, to bundle him in close, keep him safe against his chest as he runs away, takes Tomura with him to somewhere without any of these people, where their secrets aren't exposed, where they can't be hurt-

    "Izuku, Quest, I..." Tomura's hand comes up, pausing halfway in the air between them.

    Izuku doesn't miss how his fingers, ashen, blood under the nails, yet assuredly so gentle, are trembling. That, alone, is enough to have Izuku, leaning closer again, bringing one arm up for Tomura to clasp, even whilst he opens his mouth to speak too.

    First fic is the og medium-fic (~70k) that I wrote in the first three months of '22.

    Second fic is my five alternate endings, wherein I change up what could have happened at the end of the og fic. (total of ~20k)

    I then also have a third fic planned out where things diverge a little earlier on - it will be longer than the individual alternate endings, and so is getting a fic all of its own~ I'll be writing that some time this year ('23), based on the snippets and notes I already have!!

    Izuku is no fool. He knows the worst of the society he lives in (he has been Quirkless, has been cursed by strangers in the street or left upon a rooftop; he has been a hero student, harassed by a hoard of media or facing a hulking monster in the name of killing All Might-) but he still has hope. He still wants to be a hero, more than ever before in fact.

    He wants to help people, no matter what.

    Tomura is probably a fool, sometimes, but he isn't stupid. He knows that he is a villain, that he has caused pain and suffering and has done so with manic intent.

    He wants All Might dead. More, far more than that, he wants society to be different, to be better, because it raised a child like him in blood and dust and bigotry. It left him in his Sensei's arms.

    Maybe, together, they'll both find a better way to achieve their goals. Perhaps, even, they will fall in love along the way.
