Of course Kuroo had already worked it all out on his own without even asking Kenma what he thought. It was just like him to assume that naturally, that’s how it would be. Kenma listened to his breathing in order to shake the expression on his face, it would be okay, he didn’t need to be gloomy.
“It’s your turn Kuroo.”
Kuroo wavered, he always knew what Kenma was thinking, but the dull edge to his voice startled Kuroo.
“Uh. Right. Okay Ken, what’s your favorite thing about me?”

Other people would not call Kuroo Tetsurou lucky.
He grew up in the Outlying Districts, too far away from the major cities for the government to care about his life. His clothes carried the dirt from too many wears, donning him until they would physically fall off of his body. His rib cages counted each meal he skipped, and his hands reminded him of the harsh labor that kept a roof over his head. Many people would not want to be Kuroo Tetsurou.
But Kuroo Tetsurou knew life wasn’t fair.

“I like you.” Those words click into place as Kenma realizes his best friend just confessed to him. The best friend who stands before him waiting for an answer.
Kenma’s heart aches. He doesn’t feel the same. He loves Kuroo, of course he does, but not in the way that Kuroo is confessing to loving him. But he can’t stand to see Kuroo in pain. There’s no way he can reject him.

“Hey, hey, hey!” a voice calls out loudly in greeting, just as suddenly as a gun is cocked against his temple and a heavy weight is pushed down firmly on his chest. A wooden club zooms into Kei’s view in an instant, swung like a threat, its figure looming over his head without warning.
