Summary
Zuko doesn't know what would have happened if he'd stayed. Maybe his father would have humiliated him further maybe he would have changed his mind (unlikely), but whatever choice he would have made Zuko made it for him. A person can only take so much before they break after all and waking up alone and in pain was the final straw for the 13 year old boy. He's lucky he ended up where he did.
3 years after the Agni Kai that left him blind and deaf on the left side of his face Zuko lives as the adopted nephew of a small town's healer. The villagers have long stopped caring about the fire dancing over his finger tips since he's proved he only uses it to brew their medicine.
Lee has no desire to be dragged back into his father's war, but what can he do when he's the only firebender in the Earth Kingdom that the avatar he was once tasked with hunting down can hope to learn from? -

Hakoda glances up the hallway, like perhaps Katara will appear and take over dealing with the prickly teenager. Of course, his daughter is off treating injured refugees with the Avatar, and Bato is still staring at him expectantly, arms crossed.
“Fine,” He sighs, and he claps Bato on the cheek before heading into the room.
Or: Zuko falls ill not long after Ozai's defeat. Hakoda sits with him and learns some unpleasant truths about his childhood.

Hakoda has two Soulmates as far as he is aware his romantic soulmate Kya and his platonic soulmates Bato but after the death of Kya he becomes depressed and while Bato is trying to help it’s not enough until golden writing appears written like that by the hand of a child Hakoda learns he had a third soulmate all along. Learning about his new soulmate Hakoda is slowly pulled out of the dark hole he had fallen into and upon learning who his soulmate is a plot is formed to kidnap/rescue them before its too late.

Summary
The water tribe is known for being the only ones to have eyes that reflect light, tapetum lucidum, they call those who have this star eyes. But when the Chief of the Southern Water Tribe and his crew fish out a nearly drowned fire bender from the ocean they discover the boy has star eyes. Gold star eyes. At first the boy is believed to be the child of a war bride a water tribeswoman stolen from her home during a raid but they quickly come to realize they got which parent might be water tribe mixed up. The Akhult’s crew is left scrambling to figure out who might be the boy’s real father. The kid in question doesn’t even know his own name but to hell if they are giving the kid back to the fire nation or the man who burned him.

Summary
He gathered all his remaining strength and lept out of the wreck and onto the sand. He immediately started running for his life. The sand was warm and soft under his bare feet, usually an enjoyable sensation, but it made it hard to keep his footing and therefore his speed.
"Hey! That one's running away!", he heard one of the men scream and he saw in the corner of his eye that the two closest to him started their pursuit. He picked up his pace even more, although he could feel his lungs protesting. They were already tormented through the amounts of seawater he had swallowed while almost drowning and were not happy about the heavy exercise.
"Hey! Stop!", one of his followers screamed but Zuko didn't even think about it.
He could feel them closing in but he was almost at the treeline. If he made it just a little bit further he would be safe.OR
After the Agni Kai, Ozai decides to send Zuko out to the ocean to die and make his way there as miserable as possible. To Zukos luck, the ship hits ground and the wreck gets washed up to Earth Kingdom shores, where a ship of the Southern Watertribe fleet finds the injured teen. Under his false name Lee, they offer to take him to the next port.

Summary
Prince Zuko has been declared dead in the Fire Nation and the Dragon of the West is missing, presumed dead after the Great Siege of the North. Meanwhile in the deep underground palace dungeons, a beaten figure prays to Agni for help.
His savior has the bluest eyes he's ever seen and so does his new family.Hakoda wasn't planning on gaining another kid after the failed invasion but here he is. He just wishes the kid would stop giving his crew heart attacks with his lack of survival instincts.
Oh and also Azula may have started a rebellion in her brother's name. Whoops.

Summary
13 year old Zuko wakes up on an old, crappy fire Nation ship. He finds a letter from his father, describing the details of his punishment. He has little to no time to adjust to this information before the ship is attacked by pirates. Young Zuko is taken hostage. What will happen to him? Will anybody save him? Or will he die before he can escape.

The boy flew up the stairs, a flurry of black clothes against gray steel. His footfalls still fell like feathers on wood, he was glad he knew how to make his steps quiet. Otherwise his life would’ve been over right there, right then. The boy slid the door open, peeking no more than his eyes above, he looked around and quickly took note of the few unconscious men scattered around.
The boy scrambled into the tower, looking around in awe. He counted 3 unconscious men, one of said men possibly dead. Several bruises littered across each of them, one had a slice to his arm, another had his ankle at a weird angle, and the third had his arm twisted in such a way that it had begun to lose air. He tensed, screams could no longer be heard outside. In only moments the worst happened.

When Fire Lord Azulon ordered Iroh to adopt Zuko, it seemed like the magic wand that would fix everything that was wrong in Zuko's life. But life inevitably finds a way to blow up in Zuko's face. A loose retelling of the Avatar story featuring Fire Lord Iroh, angsty Azula, Zuko joining Team Avatar in first season, and a Mai who is definitely (not?) going to kill Zuko.

His nine year old nephew who, if the scan he took of their surroundings were accurate, was completely unsupervised in a crowded open air market and military dock with no bodyguards or family members anywhere in sight.
“Zuko,” Iroh breathed, only one thought able to reach his tongue, “what are you doing here?”
Or, Fire Lord Azulon Decides that Ozai's Punishment for openly attempting to usurp his older brother right after the death of his only son should be decided by Iroh himself when he returns from Ba Sing Se. meanwhile, Zuko just wants his uncle to feel better and for adults to stop being so confusing.
