But Jesse isn’t critically examining the chronology of her life at the Bureau right now, because today, September 7th, 2024, is Jesse’s thirty-third birthday.
She’s just arrived at the Oldest House, and the Research Sector is throwing her a party at 2 PM. It’ll be a relatively small gathering: Casper, Dylan, Emily, Simon, Langston, some of their staff, and maybe Ahti, if they can pry him out of Maintenance. They’re supposed to have cake, ice cream, and punch. Hell, maybe she’ll even put on a party hat and blow into a wheezy plastic horn, provided the Bureau hasn’t determined those items to be too iconic – oh, she just can’t keep up some days.

Emily raises an eyebrow skeptically.
