Dick repeats it in his head like a mantra. It's his mission, the only thing keeping him going.
They clamor single file through a door and enter into a large room that is reminiscent of a middle school gymnasium. Fluorescent light streams in through the fake windows, adding an uncomfortable glow that seems intended to capture the nostalgic feeling of a happy afternoon playing in gym class. Dick wouldn't know: having spent his childhood in the circus and later years living in the juvenile center, he has no memories of public school activities. He glances around the room for clues, hoping he won't be at a disadvantage in whatever the next game is.
“Hello, 044,” Dick flinches and jumps away from the hot breath in his ear. A towering man with white hair and an eye patch stands behind him, a blue circle displayed proudly on his chest below the number 003. The smug grin on his face makes Dick's stomach turn. His ass throbs. “You know I'm still amenable if you want to make another arrangement.”

Dick straightened up, immediately alert. Bruce had said the same thing, almost to the word, the day he had adopted Dick.
He let out a long sigh before crossing back towards Bruce. “Look,” he started soothingly. “I know you probably feel obligated to stop this somehow. But we alerted every proper authority we could. It doesn’t feel like much but—”
“I’m gonna steal it.”
Dick choked off the end of his sentence. “What?”
“I’m going to steal the Declaration of Independence.”

Magnus is a bright and sparkly computer genius seemingly hellbent on defying the awkward nerd stereotype. Alec is a lawyer more concerned with putting in hours at work than all that social nonsense his siblings insist on.
Alec is working on a document at the local coffee shop when his computer freezes and deletes the works he's spent hours on. And has only half an hour to finish. The panic is really setting in when Magnus, getting his daily caffeine fix, notices the guy in a suit cursing at his computer. He offers his assistance, and after saving Alec's day (and completely charming the pants off of him), he leaves with Alec's number and a promise of a thank you dinner.
(And then I came along and made it weird.)
