Summary
It was just a normal day at the office, with Hank and Connor sitting at their desks trying to push through all of the cases that had been put on their files. Connor was scrolling down an article, trying to find out where he could've missed something. Out of nowhere, he got this static ringing in his ears. He tried to figure out what was the cause of it, but as soon as it had started, it stopped. He knew his LED was freaking out, because it had gotten the attention of Hank.
"The fuck was that about, Connor?" Hank had asked, stopping whatever he was typing.
Connor ran a quick diagnostic to check if there was anything wrong, but it came back clean. Strange.. "I don't think it was of any importance, Lieutenant. My diagnosis is clean." Connor said, blinking a few times before going back to the web page, glancing at Hank telling him to do the same.

I very much enjoyed this story.
This was really my first look at, what seems like, a pretty realistic BDSM relationship. Everything is built on discussion and consent, which is quite refreshing.
I like the characterisation, and the overall plot. I'm not so clear on the 'why?' part of the villain's plan, but the relationship between Nines and Gavin is good.

"It's been a while since the revolution, the androids have been finally considered as their own people, although even so, there were still many issues they would face to fully integrate into society, things still needed lots of change and the human population still was weary about the future. Some were unsure of what this meant for them, as androids could live up to 170 years, with the proper maintenance. They were no longer bound to their owners for eternity with no say or free will, but some still enjoyed the idea of being given rules and tasks, as it gave them some sort of purpose."
Hank and Connor have now been living together post-android revolution, Connor has a set job in the DPD and is a lot more respected under Hank's wing, but on the other side Gavin has to deal with his double now after Connor convinced Captain Fowler to keep the RK900 model and help out on the sudden reports of Androids found brutally dismantled on the streets with components missing.

“Great,” Reed blew out his cheeks as he exhaled, half to warm them, half to vent his frustration. “No chance of finding anything out there, even at this time.”
There’d been a subtle change in Nines over the course of the case. He seemed to acquire a strange new kind of motivation, beyond his preternatural single-mindedness, around the time the third body dropped. Reed couldn’t tell if it was a strange manifestation of frustration with a dead-end case or something else. Regardless, he strongly disliked it.
“Let’s find out.”
January, 2041. A two-year stalemate over androids' rights has changed frighteningly little in Detroit. Riots have given way to uneasy peace talks, but with neither side willing to compromise, progress is limited, and crime in the city knows no rest. Nines and Reed are already overworked and tense when the next nightmare falls right into the middle of their unsolved investigation.

"In the past week." There was a television set up in the break room, he didn't listen to much to what was on the news normally, so the fact that something important was going on caught his attention. "Over seven thousand androids have begun to search for jobs in the workforce. The recent laws passed require that employers cannot discriminate against somebody due to whether or not they are android or human, similar to the previous laws passed decades ago to protect women and minority groups."
"Phcking androids, like it wasn't hard enough for humans to get jobs." Gavin remarked to nobody in particular as took a long sip of his coffee. Cringing as the hot drink scalded his throat. Shit, that hurt.
Androids have finally secured the right to work and a fair wage. RK900, Richard has eagerly joined the DPD.
Too bad his new partner is an asshole.

Summary
Gavin preferred to work alone. If anyone was going to benefit from the work he did it was going to be him. Things might have changed since the revolution, but he would work with Hank before he worked with an android. He wasn't about to teach the ropes to something that was going to come to replace him.
Nines was in limbo. He didn't know what to do now that he was awake and free. Listening to his code and tracking down deviants obviously was no longer an option, but there had to be something he could do to calm the itch beneath his synth skin. Detective work seemed like the best bet, it would satisfy his need to pursue, to chase, and perhaps along the way he would be able to find himself. Humans were taxing but couldn't be avoided. He wasn't there to make friends so as long as his coworkers stayed out of his way he would stay out of theirs.
Its a year and a half after the revolution a lot of things have changed, but some things haven't.
