Higgs was dragging himself slowly after him, forearms slipping on the slick ground, his mech squealing with every failed push.
Sam came to a hesitant stop, watching as Higgs slowly caught up to him. And then, barely audible, “Please… please, please, please…” A quiet chant as he hauled himself up.
Sam couldn’t believe what he was hearing, or seeing. Higgs, the particle of god, kneeling on broken legs, begging, eyes wide and pleading.
“Please, Sam… I’ll deteriorate out here. Like lost cargo.”

Fuck, this is gonna hurt. Dean took a final deep breath as he raised the knife to his throat. Just as the pointed tip of the blade touched his skin, giant chirialium fingers gripped around him, and the knife slipped, cutting his throat only shallowly. The fingers curled around him, constricting his arm movement and dislodged the knife from his hands.
“NO!” Dean shouted, desperately moving as he saw the knife float away. The giant golden fingers were compressing on his lungs as he tried to wiggle his way out of its grasp. The time fall battering against his uniform made the friction too loose, and the strange substance of whatever the BT was made of made it impossible to escape, and Dean witnessed as he was brought closer to its golden head. The fingers on its neck parted and Dean saw the swirling mouth of the creature.
Dean stopped fighting it when his body entered the mouth. “Fucking bullshit.” he said. The BT imploded inward with a giant flash, and everything went black.
At least Sam is in West Fort Knot. He will be safe.

Summary
Higgs Monaghan is dead. That was indisputable. The world is in recovery from the Death Stranding, Sam Bridges is trying to raise his daughter, and humans are finally retaking Earth.
But it will never be the same. BTs, timefall, DOOMs...they all still exist. Life and Death collided and they cannot be separated. As Fragile and Sam grapple with the aftermath of Higgs' death, their attempt to raise a child who may or may not be the next Higgs-level DOOMs wielder, and the UCA's constant nudges to get Sam back under their wing, a call from the other side might just solve all their problems. If only that call didn't come from the man they both hate the most...
...and if he hadn't somehow, inexplicably, befriended their surrogate daughter.

Higgs, having survived his ordeal on the Beach, has carved out a new life for himself three years after the BT's and Timefall have stopped due to Sam Bridges cutting his connection to Amelie. On route home from a delivery, Gene encounters Higgs and the two get caught in dangerous webs of confrontation as the past that Higgs is running from comes back to haunt him all the while Gene is running from her future.
