Sam Wilson's fugitive life, post-Accords: taking refuge in a kingdom that might as well have been magical, in a sprawling palace set against beautiful mountains and jungles, where there was a handsome man cursed and trapped in a deathly sleep in a glass coffin, and a kind and just king who was working to heal him, and a stalwart warrior from a far-off time who wouldn't leave his cursed friend, and, hell, Sam even knew a witch. Surely Sam could be forgiven if his thoughts turned to fairy tales and Disney movies.
Bucky's kind of like a Disney princess. Sam would maybe like to be Prince Charming.

Summary
Steve was still thinking, hardly paying attention to Bucky or anything else around him. He nearly missed it at first, when his eyelids started to flutter, and the heart monitor picked up and he turned his head to look at him, his blue eyes squinting in the bright sunlight.
Bucky took a breath, swallowed, and said five words that felt as though he’d torn Steve’s heart out and stomped on it.
“Who the hell are you?”
Steve Rogers receives news from an unexpected source that his best friend, Bucky Barnes, is alive. Armed with this new knowledge, he sets out to find him. When he does, however, he is a shell of his former self and far from what Steve remembers.
Bucky struggles to recover himself as he starts to remember where he came from and who he was before HYDRA. As he adjusts to the reality of the twenty-first century, he discovers new parts of himself, and he sees Steve in an entirely new light. They grow to be as close as they were before. Steve is just the way he used to be, to Bucky’s relief. He does what he can to help, even though with every bad turn it seems like he’ll only be able to take so much.
Unfortunately, Steve may not be what he seems after all.

Summary
Passing notes with Steve was also pretty nice. A lot of kids in class did it. Mostly girls, though a boy using a scrap of paper with checkboxes wasn’t an odd way to ask one of them out. But Bucky wasn’t usually one of them. If he wanted to get a girl, he used his words, but when it came down to it, he was only thirteen. He was still at the age where he’d rather pass notes and walk home with Steve. Steve was his best friend, and Bucky would have rather stuck with him than ditch him for a girl just because she was pretty.
Turns out, those habits weren’t ones that he ended up being able to outgrow- wanting to stick by Steve’s side or passing notes.
