Why do the Hero's Spirit endure as it does?
Who is Link, beneath his Hylian skin?Not many can remember why the Yiga was excommunicated and exiled from all of Hyrule, including their own clan, the Sheikah. Rumor that goes around was that the Royal Family of Hyrule was paranoid and feared the deadly potential of the Sheikah technology and thus banned it all, creating the Yiga Clan in the process. No one said otherwise and so it became the only truth. But is it really? If so, why did the Hero failed appearing in their hour of greatest need? Hyrule sought out the missing Hero and the equally missing Master Sword only to come up with nothing. All hope now lies on the shoulder of the still powerless Princess Zelda...until the Sheikah discovered the Shrine of Resurrection.
Who sleeps within? Who was resurrected? Who comes out of the shrine? Is it really the Hero...or something worse than the Calamity?

Summary
When Hylia felt the presence of the Old Ones for the first time in a few millennium, she was both concerned and interested at the same time.
When she sensed the presence of a new divine being enter this plane of existence, confusion was added to her list of emotions. And concern grew. Because it wasn’t a minor deity. It was another major one, like her.
The Old Ones had, for some unknown reason, made a new God out of a mortal. And they had to guard them while their mortal form slowly transmutes and becomes fully divine. Or else they'd take revenge for their obvious favorite child.
But it was fine, they were ancient beings. They could handle a little Godling for a few Divine Advents until his form acclimates to his divinity.

Death is powerful. All mortal beings eventually succumb to it, and it guards the souls that it holds jealousy. It has never given up a spirit that has entered the folds of the great unknown, and it never will.
For this reason, the Shrine of Resurrection was poorly named. True resurrection was not possible.
The creature that emerged from the Shrine might inhabit the body of the hero, but they are not the same person. -

Nobody could’ve predicted that Hylia’s chosen hero wouldn’t be the one to leave the shrine of resurrection, Nobody except for the shadow eldritch who had been sealed inside the shrine
The same shadow who has no plans to allow the goddess to lay claim to his soulmate ever again, even though his kind hearted love insists upon saving the same mortals who pushed their last hero to the child's untimely demise
Malanya sighs having forgotten how wonderfully tiresome raising children can be yet the death god wouldn't hesitate to protect the young ferals from Hylia's games, Now if only the two eldritch children understand what romance actually involves...

Link was completely and utterly normal, which was why everyone thought he was strange.
Zelda could not fault people for that, of course. All depictions of past Heroes always had something odd about them, writings detailing the way they blinked too late, or not at all, or that they were too warm or too cold, or that they always distantly smelled of ozone, that their teeth were just slightly off, their eyes stretched too wide, lips pulling just slightly too far when they smiled, their fingernails too thin or too thick or too dark or too pale, a few claimed the Heroes looked like living paintings, and none ever used the word normal to describe them.
