Summary
Doctor Jonathan Reid liked to think he was a helpful person; assisting the needy was, after all, one of the reasons he'd chosen to study medicine. However, as he stood over McCullum's badly wounded body, while facing off with two Ekon, he thought dimly that maybe he was in over his head. There was little time for introspection however, with one of the Ekon lunging at the surgeon while the other circled back, looking for an opening to strike.

This was how it had gone for almost a year; they'd started their back and forth after Reid returned from Scotland with the ashes of his mentor still clinging to his coat. Geoffrey had meant to keep an eye on the leech, make sure he wasn't killing anyone, but somewhere along the line it had all went wrong. He wasn't meant to fall for the surgeon, but then again, he recognized the same carefully concealed hunger in Reid's eyes - hunger that had nothing to do with blood.

In the early hours of January 7th 1928 the River Thames flooded, bursting its banks and demolishing a 50 metre stretch of the parapet wall. Officially, 14 people died that night, and thousands were left homeless across London. The majority of the victims lived and died in basement slums on the Westminster side of Lambeth Bridge.
I have tried to treat this subject with respect. Contained within are references to true events and real people taken from survivor accounts.

And now, here they were, a badly broken leech and a man who should have killed it already, trapped in a safe house together as the sun rose. Ascalon would most certainly have something to say about McCullum's daring rescue once the sun fell again, and as much as he hated to admit it, having Jonathan back in fighting condition would be a great help. Geoffrey sighed again, watching bloodied spittle drip out of Reid's slack mouth, soiling the mattress further.
