Summary
The eternal night no longer seemed as malevolent and all-consuming to Jonathan as it once had. It was peaceful, in its way: quiet enough to see danger coming from some distance. Quiet enough for Geoffrey McCullum's war dogs to avoid him under the streetlamps unless he had come across them in the midst of battle.
But appearances are deceptive. A screaming silence, a bright night... What if everything is turned upside down? Friends and enemies, trust and betrayal, pride and humiliation. At times closer than the two sides of a coin... and Geoffrey and Jonathan have precious little time to unravel it all.

Summary
Reid had never killed a patient, not yet, but lately he'd found himself far more interested in putting his mouth on wounds instead of stitching them. His control felt frayed in a way it hadn't during the epidemic; was this just a natural progression of vampirism, or was he correct in assuming this was something different? The only way to know would be to ask Edgar, but just the thought already made his hackles rise. So instead, he remained slumped over the desk top, digging his hands into his eyes until he saw stars.
Or, something is not quite right with Jonathan Reid.

Summary
“I hate him.” He said after he took another swig from the whiskey - actually it was the last of it, as he glanced down, he just realised that the bottle was empty.
“Hate is a strong word to use.”
“It’s also the right word to use.” Grumbled Geoffrey, the pain was finally was drown out by the alcohol. -

Summary
McCullum grabbed his sword from where it was propped against his workbench and approached the sound, his movements practiced and methodical; there was no way for a living creature to get onto the wooden platform two stories in the air. Geoffrey knew leeches couldn't get inside the building without an invitation, but he stayed far away from any potentially grabbing claws regardless as he unlocked the door and opened it wide. He was hit with a blast of raindrops as the door slammed back into the wall with a resounding crack. There on the balcony, dripping water, was Jonathan Reid.

Summary
“It's so bloody hot out here,” Geoffrey said for what felt like the hundredth time that evening. His face was red from the humidity, and he was saturated with sweat due to his refusal to shed some of his many layers of clothing.
Jonathan, being an Ekon, didn't sweat nor feel the temperature as humans did. His body was forever as cold as a corpse, so he said nothing about the weather, instead focusing on getting them both to the closest hideout, which happened to be his. He steered the hunter down a nearby alleyway, ushered Geoffrey inside and threw the bolt behind him.

Summary
Out of all the flawed characters in London, both those he healed and those he killed, none of them were like McCullum.
The hunter was so sure of himself, so sure of his cause, that he risked death to even attempt to bring Jonathan to his knees. It was fascinating and invigorating to be in the same room as the one man who knew exactly what he was and did not flee. Jonathan found himself willing to do anything to be in the man's presence, even if it meant he had to entangle himself further in the whims and wants of others; no, not others, just McCullum.

Summary
"Look, for what it's worth, I'm sorry about your mam. I know it's hard to lose your parents." McCullum stuffed his hands into his pockets as he continued, "however, I promised that I'd keep an eye on you. Who knows what a powerful leech like you might get up to in such a large city."
The vampire paused, his brain feeling whiplashed. "I...are you inviting yourself along to my mother's funeral?" He asked incredulously.

"Seven bodies is a substantial amount of death for only six weeks," Reid said, startlingly casual.
"Six bodies," Geoffrey corrected, only for the stranger to chuckle quietly.
"I'll stop by tonight to talk more, you'll want to keep your phone line clear," Reid said.
"And why's that?" Geoffrey asked, something about this man was raising his mental alarms.
"Why, the seventh body of course," the stranger chuckled, ending the call.

Summary
And now, here they were, a badly broken leech and a man who should have killed it already, trapped in a safe house together as the sun rose. Ascalon would most certainly have something to say about McCullum's daring rescue once the sun fell again, and as much as he hated to admit it, having Jonathan back in fighting condition would be a great help. Geoffrey sighed again, watching bloodied spittle drip out of Reid's slack mouth, soiling the mattress further.

Unfortunately, that is not the case.

Summary
"What are you doing up there?"
Near to the docks, at the top of the bridge he found Geoffrey - sitting beside two full bottles, working on to emptying the third one in his hand.
The hunter flinched, then hiccupped before glancing up at him. "Regrettin' some of my more recent life decisions and hiding from my responsibilities. If you'd like to join me, there's plenty of room for two." -
