Lance let the Bayard fall from his hand. His body was covered in sweat from the amount of energy he just exerted. He wasn’t sure if he was about to pass out or throw up but he was sure one of those was coming next, if not both.
“Lance…Lance!” A gruff, yet calming voice called.
A warm presence kneeled beside him.
Keith.
Suddenly the Red Paladin’s hands were all over him, frantically searching for which wound to address first.

Lance gets hurt while stopping an assassination, lucky for him Keith's got his back, unlucky for him, now the planet will only join the coalition under one condition: that the Blue and the Red "boyfriends" are the face of the treaty. Lance cursed as he weaved through the crowded platform, the mass of people heading in the opposite direction as to what he was going making it feel as if he was a fish trying to swim upriver. He just needed to reach the train before the doors closed, if he could do that then maybe he wouldn’t be horribly late for this stupid date that Hunk had convinced him to go on.
He had only agreed because of his soul clock. If it hadn’t had lined up with the same time as the date was supposed to happen, then Lance would never have agreed to meet up with this unknown person that Hunk swore up and down was ‘the one’. A hard hit to Lance’s shoulder from a man walking past caused him to lift his right arm to get out of the way and in doing so, he saw his clock slowly ticking down.

It wasn’t that Keith wasn’t upset, or angry, or frustrated, because he was. No - it was knowing Shiro was making a mistake, a big mistake, and he couldn’t say a thing. Wouldn’t.
Patience yields focus. That was what Shiro taught him, and after he had smashed his head for the fourth time into the wall of his bedroom, it hit him. An epiphany, not the wall. That was when he knew.
He couldn’t stop Shiro. Shiro was going to marry Curtis. Shiro wanted to marry Curtis. And--Shiro needed to marry Curtis. And Keith...Keith was going to let him do it. Just this once, he was not going to pull Shiro back from the precipice he stood on.
It was the only way to truly help Shiro move on, to finally, finally, do what needed to be done.
A story after the epilogue, about the mornings after, questioning Lance's sanity, and of course, happily ever afters after that not-so-happily ever after.
