    Summary

“Odysseus.” Odysseus did not startle. He also did not greet Diomedes despite having known of his approach. “Odysseus?”

Perhaps this was some sort of battle related trauma. Diomedes ended up sitting down besides Odysseus and let his shoulder bump against the sullen King. “Talk to me, friend.”

    “...About what?”

“What’s going on? Polites is concerned, so are your men. Was it the blood? Or the men who fell? Rest assured, friend, none of yours fell today.”

“Do you think King Sisyphus fights against his punishment? Do you think the Fates would allow him, if he did?”

Flinching, Diomedes observed the change in Odysseus’ eyes. Instead of the colour of the sea, Odysseus’ eyes were taken over by a hue of red– only noticeable when observed in a certain angle but definitely present. Diomedes knew what caused a hue of red like that.

Odysseus had been touched by Ares’ Rage.

    —---

In which Odysseus is dropped back in time into the Trojan War and chooses to mess with everyone until it gets him killed or gets him back to Penelope. Others take notice.

    Or, Odysseus is soooo done.

    Summary

There were rumors, quickly squashed by the island kingdom, that the Prince of Ithaca had grown wings on his feet when he was a boy. There were rumors that he had wings elsewhere too; on his back and behind his ears. They were squashed even quicker. Anyone who could get a look at the prince could see that his body was not adorned in feathers of any kind.

None of them knew, and Ithaca’s royal family planned to keep it that way. Fearing that this problem of unknown origin (curse or yet another divine being’s fling with a mortal) would be seen as an insult to the gods and bring down their wrath. Odysseus has grown used to having to cut down or hide the extra appendages, but the struggle only grew when he was forced into the Trojan War.

Now, with the war at its end and his fleet ready to return home, he only has one thing on his mind; getting home to his wife and son.

    Summary

At the tender age of thirteen, the night before his coronation, Odysseus had grown wings. With his father succumbing to madness and his mother frail, Odysseus became The King of Ithaca, now with the weight of both the crown and his cursed appendages.

For the better part of his life Odysseus had bound these wings, repressing the instincts that came with it. Too bad a certain God noticed these harmful tendencies and decided to act on it. Hermes has always regarded family highly, looking out for his kin in one way or another.

Despite one falling through the cracks, Hermes will make up for it to make sure the mortal is never hurt again. Even if it means locking Odysseus away from the dangers of the world, Hermes will protect him.

Even if Odysseus doesn’t want him to.

    “Captain?” he asked.

Odysseus’ eyes were half-lidded and dazed with dark eye bags resting beneath them, and, now that Eurylochus was closer, he could tell that he was leaning against the railing much more than he had originally thought he was.

    He clearly needed to sleep.

After Odysseus stays up for 9 days on end in an attempt to protect the wing bag, he is beyond tired. Eurylochus, while in the middle of a crisis on whether he should chose the crew’s side or the captain’s, notices and rejects cannon by deciding to be a decent friend.

“You know,” she said, and Odysseus winced, turning his head in vain, trying to tear himself away from that voice that seemed to wind its way into his skull, vibrating there until his insides were nothing but a thick sludge. “If it is danger you seek, you need only ask.”

He did kick, then. More tendrils were growing from the larger ones, and they were snaking up his body, around his thighs, up his chest, prodding and pinching, and Odysseus writhed in their hold, though it only served to cut gashes into his skin. “I would be more than happy to oblige,” whispered the goddess’ voice in his very mind, everywhere and all around him, her words scraping him to the marrow. “Is that it, darling? Do you wish to be hurt?”

At some point, he started screaming himself, trying to drown out the voices that tormented him. But then, a punch landed on his cheek. That, surprisingly, made all the voices stop at once. Completely. For the first time in years, Odysseus's mind was totally silent.

“Hey! You can’t just punch him like that!” yelled Polites, right in front of Odysseus, trying to stop Eurylochus, who didn’t even seem interested in Polites’ words.

“You said we had to help him,” Eurylochus complained, looking annoyed, as if it were obvious, as if he hadn’t done anything wrong.

“But not like this! You can’t just go around punching people like that!” Polites argued back, clearly determined to defend his point.

“Well, it’s not like I can go around punching people,” Eurylochus replied, irritated, crossing his arms and looking away. “Turns out, when you're dead, you can’t really touch people,” he muttered, a faint blush on his cheeks. “I don’t even know how I managed to hit Ody,”

'What If' scenarios for the Frayed Feathers AU. I would highly recommend reading "I'll Be Home With Frayed Feathers" first if you haven't already, otherwise you may be a bit confused. Other than that I hope you are willing to give these silly little scenarios a chance!

    Now Including:
    1. Poseidon discovering Odysseus's wings early and making the wrong conclusions
    2. Zeus giving the choice to somebody else and the aftermath of said choice
    3. A look at how poorly things could have gone for Odysseus as a child when his wings first grew
    4. A very long, dramatic and fluffy alternate version of how Odysseus and Penelope met and fell in love
    5. A less than ideal reunion between Odysseus and Hermes on Calypso's island
    6. Hermes trying, and failing, to keep Odysseus a secret from the other gods

    Summary

"“Dio?” Odysseus asked, the nickname slipping out for the first time since that day on the battlefield and making Diomedes pause. “Would you tell me something?”

Diomedes hummed, dropping another handful of water on the king of Ithaca’s head and following it with a kiss. Before he would have to get Odysseus worked up quite a bit before he’d let Diomedes be so tender without teasing him. Now Diomedes did not know if the king would ever stand the way they used to be, but right now it felt like a worthy trade.

“Penelope…would you describe her to me?” Odysseus asked shyly."
