They would die long before they got to find out what it was like to love someone, to court them, to marry them. Soldiers dedicate their hearts to a cause, not a person.

There was a familiarity to the way they touched, just as there was in everything else they did, so used to one another’s bodies, but never in a way that felt tired or old. Armin thought there was no greater comfort than this, and no greater feeling than being touched by someone who knew you better than you knew yourself. Summary
Jean never tired of how easily those blue eyes and pink lips made his focus slip, and how much he found that he really didn’t care. In fact, he craved the feeling of letting go of his control for once. Perhaps that’s why Armin liked him too, what drew him to someone as forbidden as Jean. Maybe it was that sense of letting go that they both found so enticing about the other.
