The beach had the most electrifying energy - it lures feelings that you dare not to say out loud. Waves crash onto the shores, hopefully loud enough to deafen the lump in your chest.
It was here that Alex would be found by his new neighbor, and enemy, while he ousted his troubles. He didn't know anyone would actually hear him, but little did he know he was actually on the connecting patch of the beach of the Farmer's property. Screaming was probably not the greatest idea. “I can at least walk down there.”
“You’re supposed to be taking it easy,” Elliott reminded him, propping himself up on an elbow. “Doctor’s orders, remember? No lifting, no crouching, no pretending you can wrestle a chicken yet.”
Lukus huffed a short laugh. “You make it sound like I wrestle them every morning.”
“You might if they keep hiding eggs,” Elliott teased. “Seriously, stay put. I’ve got the watering and feeding covered.”
“I should at least help plan what we’re planting next week,” Lukus said, then winced as he tried to sit up straighter.

Summary
The more things seem to change, the more they stay the same. It's a phrase Reb has heard a fair few times, and he's always thought it pretty dumb.
Reb doesn't move to Ferngill out of a sense of duty to his late granddad-- he'd barely known the man even before his memory started getting spotty-- or out of any particular hatred for his home in Pangolais, but because he doesn't have any other choice. The details are already fuzzy, but he remembers enough to know that he doesn't want to think about it. Not that he has the time to, with trying to tame this hellish farmland and the beasts that roam it.
He really should have expected it. By the time he'd made enough progress to leave the farm without worrying that his house would be ransacked by slimes and golems, the whispers had already begun. 'What's wrong with his eyes?', 'Why does he smile so widely?', 'There's just something off about him,' and 'With a name like that, he's bound to be trouble.' Reb had foolishly hoped things would be different here, with a whole ocean between him and the last people who had uttered those words.

Noah had surprised Sam by asking him to dance at the Flower Dance a couple of weeks earlier. A small smile crept over Sam's face as he remembered how it felt holding the farmer in his arms, and how handsome he'd looked in his grandfather's suit. At the end of the dance, the two friends had made plans to grab a drink at the Saloon, which had been a lot of fun. After that, Noah had dropped by unexpectedly when Sam had been practicing guitar, and Noah had admitted he played as well. They'd compared favourite bands - Noah was more into 90's alternative and folk rock than Sam, who generally preferred later rock music, with a few exceptions - and Noah had invited him over for a jam session… just the two of them.
Which… if this wasn't a date, it had to at least be date adjacent.
