His trademark smirk was on his face. It didn't have quite the same effect when he was wearing slacks and a blue dress shirt instead of his black leather suit but the guy he was currently holding by the neck was shaking with fear. He made sure not to choke him too hard, he wanted him to hear every word he had to say.
-Midnighter and Apollo go on a date and are attacked by homophobes. It doesn't end well for the homophobes.

Summary
“Apollo.” Midnighter whispered so quietly into the dark, Apollo almost didn’t catch it. “I think she’s asleep.” his voice was breathy, as though he was afraid to disturb the air around them.
Apollo looked at Mid’s arms and couldn’t help but smile sweetly. On the crook of Midnighter’s neck, their Jenny let out a puff of air and hugged herself tighter around his arms.
“Oh God,” Apollo whispered, “she’s so cute.” Midnighter snorted, trying to move as little as possible.

Summary
Apollo felt like parts of him had been torn away, him and Midnighter so rooted and tangled in one another that the speration couldn't help but drag those roots out, and those roots tore away parts of him.
It's hard to separate yourself from someone you have always known.
In the aftermath of Midnighter leaving the authority and separating from Apollo, Apollo reflects on what Midnighter leaving did to him.
