When an old one rises, a former cultist revisits their childhood beliefs. Short one-shot. Set in an alt-history version of modern-day America where the Moral Majority was kicked off by lovecraftian cultists trying to summon an old one. Rated M for thematic elements.
I remember needing a signature from our pastor, in whose megachurch the school met. It was an odd interview. I sat quiet at the shiny table while he talked to my parents. Tried to talk them out of it. Public school could be a good experience, he said. His own kids were in public school, he said. You don’t need to go to this school, he said.

Set seconds after the manga finishes, Kid finds himself endeavouring a new responsibility, with the DMWA and the world in the palm of his hands. Though after he is taken aside by Spirit and Stein, he gets told that in Deaths official Will it states that: "While Kid is the new True Death God he cannot be running political affairs, the DWMA and Death City without extensive assistance until he has passed a year long process called Jitsuzon-teki— a strange stage in a Shinigami’s life where he has to mentally transition form being partially human to a full Death God." With the help of Spirit and Stein, Kid embarks on a personal 12 month journey, all the while he makes some terrible personal decisions.
During this journey, Kid starts to get terrifying dreams it is revealed that Death had some truths that were never meant to be revealed. With the discovery of a strange dark secret, Kid realises that there are some things larger than the world they know, and the worst part is: He is sworn to secrecy. How will he manage to contain a government secret when the public starts to conspire against him all while going through the crazy time of Jitsuzon-teki? How will he handle press conferences? He'd even gotten Peter started doing it, though it hadn't been easy, Peter thinking it all just a bit childish. Now, they were going to discover there was danger in even that most innocent of occupations. By the time it's all over, they've experienced more than a little embarrassment, Caeide has become more than a little pissed off, and the Old Ones stick their finger in the pie to banish a hungry immortal and protect Haven and the continued entertainment it provided them {"rather like a BBC serial, my dear, a very long running one!".} Not to mention the generation of a heavier dose of 'afterglow' than even the norm around Haven. Or as Peter kept insisting, "no, I just don't want to talk about it!"
