He thought of them together, and that feeling washed over him again. Protectiveness. He wanted Edwin kept far away from him, and kept safe. Then he wondered if he would feel better if it was someone else Edwin was with. He thought of Monty and the feelings that had brought up. But he’d been right to be protective then, too. He’d known that crow was no good. But then there was the image of Edwin meeting someone else. In a book shop, on a case. And he hated that faceless man too. He wanted them all a million miles away from Edwin, and for him to be the only one. Where was the line between wanting to protect him and wanting to monopolise him? When did he stop being the caring best friend and start being the jealous boy left alone? Why did the line keep blurring? He worried what would happen if he stepped too far across it, worried who he would become.

Too strong, seeing as he doesn't let go. His grip turns painful enough that Charles has to fight off a grimace. "And, prey tell, Charles Rowland, why have you been following me around for the past two weeks?"

All his instincts were urging him to rip apart the insolent intruder who had dared to invade their sanctuary. His temper really hadn’t cooled down over the years.

You see, in my recent scrying sessions I had contact with such a delightful world, the bonds between couples there were just marvelous. They made me think of you two right away.” Now that sounded rather ominous. Edwin and Charles exchanged a quick look, both more than ready to get out, but both fearing for much worse should they deny her.
“And as such, I have found just the spell to bind you even closer to each other.” Smiling sagely to herself, seemingly not noticing the growing restlessness of her guests. “I noticed just how attached you are to each other, running from death, pledging to stay together for all eternity. How romantic.” Edwin inhaled startled, Charles tensed, his hand itching to grab for his cricket bat.
