Summary
The lost perfect court is back together. But Jean has to relearn how to play with Kevin — on and off the court — if there’s any chance of making it work. And Jeremy? Jeremy has to be his anchor when things get messy, both in the game and in Jean’s head.
Or
Jean hurts Jeremy during a scrimmage. Guilt eats him alive — enough to finally let Jeremy in. Not just into his game, but into every guarded part of himself. Physically. Emotionally. Completely.

Summary
Jean’s breathing comes much harder than it should, even after practically carrying Kevin to Jeremy’s doorstep. His expression is torn, gaze flickering past Jeremy’s shoulder when Kevin whines a wordless protest.
Jean turns his face from them both. “I cannot stay. I—I must distract him before he realizes Kevin is missing.”
They’re the first words Jeremy’s ever heard him say. It’s good to know that the language barrier has been overstated.
Careful, projecting each movement, Jeremy catches Jean’s pinky finger once more, this time just with his index. “Look, I don’t know what happened but I’m really not comfortable letting you just leave.”
“Your comfort is not a factor.”

Summary
“Jean,” Kevin says, in that ever annoying tone. Unspoken: You cannot refuse me.
Jean can. And does. He swings his leg over the bike, and settles onto the seat, and when Kevin opens his mouth again, revs the throttle.
“What was that?” Jean asks. “I couldn’t hear you.”

“I volunteer”
The words felt like iron in Jeans mouth, a weight too heavy to carry and so it slips out of his mouth before he can think better of it.
No one objected, no one cried out, in fact the crowd was deadly silent, except for a loud clapping coming from the woman who was doing the reaping.
or
Jean and Jeremy are in the hunger games and will do anything to get the other out.

Summary
You can’t coddle him.” Kevin rolls his shoulders, cracking his neck, as he drops to sit next to Jeremy. “If he isn’t going to do what is needed, then you need to make him.”
“The last thing Jean needs is more people making decisions for him.” Jeremy says. If there’s one thing he knows, it’s that. He doesn’t need the full story to see that Jean has never been allowed to make his own choices. “He needs space to heal.”
“I didn’t bring him here to heal.” Kevin snaps and then looks stricken the second the words leave his mouth. That’s all that saves him from Jeremy’s wrath.

“He’s his own person.” Alvarez insists with the same thinly veiled venom she’d had the night before at dinner.Kevin grunts; cups Jean’s face in his hands, squishing cheeks that are finally starting to fill out. The bottomless trust he finds in Jean’s eyes, even after everything, is dizzying enough to make him sick. “Jean does not know how to be a person, much less his own. You do not know him as I do.”
No one knows Jean as Kevin does. The person who helped him sculpt Jean is dead. Riko put a muzzle on Jean and left Kevin holding the leash.

"There are days when Jean runs.
Not for training, not for fitness, not even for Exy. He calls it jogging to pacify Jeremy’s worried eyes, but it’s running. Full sprint, lungs burning, mind blank. He runs like something is chasing him—because something always is."
Or

Summary
“I don’t have the balls to kill anyone,” Jeremy admits. Andrew suddenly looks very interested. “But I know what kinda things can ruin somebody’s life. And I know how to make a loss hurt. If it was anyone else’s drink…”
The strobes flash white for a split second, and Andrew’s eyes are the yellow of a predator—a big cat, looking to pounce.
“But your own drink, you’d be fine having spiked?”
Jeremy slides him a glance, which he hopes explains more than his next words: “Nothing he puts in it would change me enough.”
