The only thing Lance heard was ringing in his head. He stared out in front of him at the scenes unfolding. There was a heavy pressure in his chest, like someone had lit a match in his ribcage while the flames flickered and burned. His breathing was calm and even but it felt labored and forced and was too loud to his own ears.
It was a familiar feeling; the way anger coiled in his heart and squeezed. It was the same feeling that happened whenever he was at the point of snapping, of letting his instincts kick in and take control. It was one that warned and prepared him for an incoming storm.
Or; Allura does not take learning about Keith’s heritage well. Lance recognizes prejudice when he sees it

"Lance!" he screamed, already turning around and going back for his bravely stupid best friend. "Lance!" Hunk's stomach bottomed out. He wasn't going to make it./ Hunk and Lance are stranded in an icy wasteland but the cold is quickly becoming the least of their problems. And he sure as hell doesn't know how he's going to survive this new challenge life has decided to throw at him, because apparently his life wasn't hard enough already. Go figure.

Summary
The Blade mission is dangerous but Keith is confident that between himself and Lance, who along with the Red Lion is integral to the success of it, they’ll be fine. However, as the mission progresses Keith is finding it harder and harder to ignore the fact that Lance keeps making himself a human shield and sacrificing his own safety for Keith’s and it's reminding him far too much of his own decision on Naxzela and what he almost did to keep the others safe.
But now that horrific pattern of self-sacrifice has come to a head as Lance is injured protecting Keith. And it's not just a terrible wound: Lance is poisoned and slowly, painfully dying before Keith's eyes. Unlike Naxzela where he could at least do something (even if it would have cost him everything) there's nothing he can do to save Lance. Nothing except hope for a miracle.

Lotor mistakenly believes that Lance, acting as a spy for the Galra, has killed Keith, and invites him to return to the Empire with him. Team Voltron uses this to their advantage.
“You finally get to return to your real people, Blue Paladin. You no longer have to run around with those…scumbags? Is that a term they use on Earth to describe the lowest filth they can think of?”
Recognition seemed to dawn on the Blue Paladin’s face.
