Summary
Hob Gadling is only human. While most of the time he can go through life with a smile on his face, there are moments where even he feels the heaviest of burdens on his shoulders. There are days, when he wishes he can crawl back into bed and call it a day.
Today is one of those days.
Unfortunately, when a huge trauma comes into the ER, there is little Hob can do but take a deep breath and try saving as many patients as he can.
When things take a turn for the worse, he is left out in the pouring rain, tired and numb. That is, until he is offered comfort and shelter from the one person he lest expects it from.

Summary
“I will break you, you sin against God,” Burgess growls at Dream, snapping the whip directly at the end of Dream’s tail. It takes all of his self control for Dream to not flinch. Especially when Roderick hits the same spot again, this time drawing blood. The wound is shallow, at least. Merfolk are not easy to harm, their bodies are far more hardy than humans, but they can still die if bled out. Burgess knows this, knows that the whip will hurt more than harm, and so he utilizes it to make Dream sing for him.
But still, Dream will not sing. He will never sing for any mortal man.

This image is a "what if" variation that has been developing in my head for the past several months. This scene does not exist in the comics and is purely a fantasy version of an outcome I felt compelled to create.

When Hob Gadling made a drunken deal with a mysterious man in a pub, he didn’t expect anything to come of it. Waking up the following morning with a golden mark on his wrist was a shock, though less than finding out that he couldn’t die. Who had he made a deal with, and what did he want? His Stranger was far from forthcoming, so he’d have to figure it out himself. That his mark was not just a passkey to an underworld of supernatural beings but the sign that he wasn’t meant to spend eternity alone was enough to send him down paths he never knew existed and ask more questions than were answered. Who, or more importantly what was his Stranger, and did the mysterious man know who Hob was destined for?
(An AU where only immortals have soulmarks that mark their species/type as well as their partner, and Hob has something no one has seen before)

The saint blinks slowly. His mouth, Hob notices, is partly open and although the saint attempts to conceal it,his whole body shivers, despite the warmth of the light.
“You may approach me, my dreamer.” The saint says softly, and Hob, lured by the quiet power of that voice, does as he is bid.
On 25th of May 1381, Hob Gadling, the only surviving member of a family swept away by plague, has a vivid and life altering dream. A saint, pale and as comely as a maiden tells him to follow Wat Tyler onto liberation. Hob, who is tied to the land on Lord Roderick Burgess estate is helped along the way by saintly visitations in the form of dreams. And now, Hob must decide if disobedience is worth the price of freedom.
