Near on every minute of his time confined to Fawney Rig has been spent hoping the old bastard might collapse, might spontaneously expire, or that a God he does not believe in might strike the awful man down.

Summary
Lord Morpheus is the eldest child of the Earl and Countess of Endless, an ancient family hiding huge debts behind a fine name. As an omega, Morpheus cannot inherit his father's title or the family's ancestral home. His function is simple: secure a match that is both socially advantageous and financially viable, thus securing the future of the estate and the title of Earl of Endless for his offspring. Summary
What a vexing man. Luckier than he deserves, audacious too, but a mystery.
Now, starved of contact, cut off from his realm and Lucien, Dream realises that perhaps it would be prudent for him to swallow his pride and forgive the man. He likely hadn't understood the gross overstepping of his station that he'd committed, by daring to call an Endless his friend, claiming him to be lonely, as if Dream were the one in need of companionship.
Still, he rather misses the mortal, as much as one such as he can.
Dream's perspective on his time in imprisonment. Hob just wants to see his friend again.

Desire made Roderick Burgess want to target Death but it was actually to target Dream instead. But everything had gone wrong when they were the one who got captured. Morpheus found out and he wanted to show Desire the worst consequences for messing up with him.

In a different universe, a different realm, another Dream of the Endless meets another Robert Gadling. In a world where magic never left the realm, where dragons roam the lands and where science and magic are married rather than apart, this facet of Dream is not so heavily burdened by his function, and this Hob does not gain immortality as part of a wager.
But some pieces of the story do not change across the universes. Dream is still captured by Roderick Burgess. Hob Gadling will still lose his family, and later his wife and child to tragedy. But they will always meet, as they were meant to, and in this universe, they also get the chance to fall in love.
