This is my second entry into Dimension 20 Big Bang, and it is 2021's entry. However, due to illness, I was unable to post it when everyone else was. I really didn't know if I ever should but it got to a point where I really wanted too. And thanks to the phenominal artist, Gelbu (https://twitter.com/kinggelbe), who has supported me along the way, I've gained the courage to actually post this! So, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Lapin is dying.
He's lying on the floor of the chapel, blood spilling from his many wounds, yet he knows it won't be blood loss that kills him. Despite the fact he's lost at least a liter and a half of blood, he can feel his breath evening out, and he begins to slip into unconsciousness.
Lapin shields Preston with his body, squeezing his eyes shut and hoping that at least it’s quick... He hears shouting outside, a loud CLUNK of metal as something lands in front of him, and he hears Keradin's Mace swing towards him.
"They couldn't have gotten out of here without you. My third wish is for you to come home."

"I don't think I could fall if I wanted to," Ruby said to Jet in their shared language from where she was balanced in a handstand near the edge of the battlements of Castle Candia. "I belong in the sky, and besides, the spirits of Candia would never stand for it, right?"
"Of course not! My sister will never fall." Jet replied, with a grin on her face. They'd managed to slip away from their lessons today, mostly, and hopefully none of the guards would come up here for at least another ten or fifteen minutes. Ten or fifteen Lapin-free minutes would make any sort of scolding that they might get for this worthwhile.

The world is, unfortunate as it is, extremely cruel. Love, death, and grief are omnipresent. But it doesn't have to be. Calorum is a world of pain and sorrow, but this is my goddamn fanfiction, and I cried when Preston died, so fuck that.
Don't get me wrong, grief and pain and death are still inevitable, but they can be softer. The roar of a forest fire and the gentle glow of a candle still have the same story--they are lit, they burn, and they sputter and smoke. The meaning of the story is still the same, through the trials and tribulations, the answer is still love. This is the same story you've heard before. It's just kinder.
