Summary
The kiss is completely inelegant, and Gaius stiffens in surprise, still kneeling on the ground between Estinien's legs. Estinien nips at Gaius' lower lip in a completely uncharacteristic manner.He has completely lost his mind and knows it. Now they both do.
After the initial surprise, Gaius does slowly, carefully, attempt to return the kiss. It is an awkward thing, but there is an undeniable heat building in the air.
"Shut up, shut up, shut up godsdamn you -" Estinien murmurs against the other man’s lips, trying to quash the feeling building up inside him. Frustration and embarrassment and arousal that he can feel hot in his spine, thrumming in his chest.

Summary
It strikes me that with the addition of Alphinaud to their party that they finally had a healer. It's a good thing as when Gaius slips and falls into an icy creek and then doesn't stop to dry off or warm-up for miles (his first mistake) because they can't stop, and then later falls almost deathly ill, because Alphinaud at least has that knowledge to help the others nurse the delirious Garlean too stubborn for his own good back to health.

Summary
The Bloody Banquet left everyone marred, everyone irrevocably changed. He reminded himself it was something they all had to cope with; with the Scions slowly picking up the pieces and moving on with thir lives to (relative) success, fighting even when exhausted and never giving up when happiness was still somehow attainable.
However, only the Warrior of Light saw Alphinaud directly after the events that ranspired in Ul'Dah. Something he was infinitely thankful for, as any prying eyes to his unraveling would've made everything much more difficult. Just like with everything else, he hid it, dealing with the nightmares and jumping at shadows that were only there for him. The ringing in his ear reminding him that he couldn't relax, couldn't feel safe.
And how could he, when he caused this onto himself? It would be amiss of him to be angry at karmic justice being served, even if he was the recipient.

An AU interpretation of what happened at and after the Bloody Banquet where Alphinaud is left much more shattered than when he entered, and that healing from it wouldn't be as easy when hiding from the pain like a shadow.

I detest what you stand for, what you’ve done to people in your quest for power and control, the monster I see before me is horrifying.” She looked at where Tesleen's sin eater had just previously stood.
“You are not a king, and you are certainly not a god. No matter how many emotionless husks you force into submission, that doesn’t make you anything other than a petulant child.”
