And she met all of the Alters. And she started to get closer to Dennis. And then the Beast showed up and so did Kevin?

Casey, a guarded high-schooler dreading summer with her abusive uncle John, jumps at a Philly Zoo volunteer internship offered by her biology teacher (Mrs. Hegel/Higel). She forges her uncle’s signature on the permission slip. On her first day cleaning enclosures, she showers in the locker room afterward. Dennis (the maintenance man, “Kevin Crumb”) enters for thermostat work, secretly watches her through the curtain, becomes aroused. She senses him, they have an excruciatingly awkward encounter; he mumbles an apology and flees. Both leave shaken—Casey mortified and ashamed, Dennis flooded with guilt and dark curiosity.

What better sacrifice than from one who makes it willingly?
On the verge of suicide, a severely depressed Casey Cooke offers to take the place of her classmates in what she thinks is a run-of-the-mill kidnapping by a handsome zookeeper with DID, only to find herself being groomed for cannibalization in ritual sacrifice to a primordial entity of retribution. Oh well. If she's going out, she may as well go out with a bang, and take her abuser and all of those complaint in letting her suffer at his hands, down with her. And if she accidentally falls in love with her kidnapper in the process, her sacrifice will only be all the more sacred. After all, the ways of the underworld are not her ways, but they are perfect, and not to be questioned.

Five years after Casey's Uncle is arrested for his crimes against her, Dennis and Casey have a quiet moment together, ruminating on the ethics of hunting and captive animals. Is it better to kill an animal after deeming it special or keep it safe to never experience freedom again? And why does it seem like they aren't really talking about animals at all?
I wrote this in the mindset that this is in a universe where the Horde is not superpowered or evil. The beast never happened or kidnapped anybody. Also, for how I want the characters to be, Casey would be aged up here, and Dennis is NOT into underage girls.

After losing both of her parents in a plane crash, Eclipsa and her sisters are left orphaned. Placed in the hands of their grandmother, like Kevin, they are abused beyond measure. Now an adult, the deep scars of abuse follow her. Haunting her like shadows. Using her pain as fuel she enters the police academy, where she climbs the latter to Captain. Vowing to protect her community and those who are suffering, she takes back control. After the many robberies and muggings lead her to the Philadelphia Zoo, she has no choice but to reside there for further investigation. Where she meets Kevin, an interesting man that seems to change moods like the weather. Following their embarrassing first encounter, she tries to make amends. Now stationed around the zoo, she sees more of the compelling man. Could they be friends? Could they find similarities between each other? But why was he staring at her so intently? And when did his blue eyes become so mesmerizing?
