When her great-grandfather Niall tells her it is time to return, he offers no warnings: not of what has changed, how much time has passed at home, who has waited, or how crossing back will feel like waking from a dream. Nor does he prepare her for what follows... that the shadows and nightmares she's fought for four years may be coming for what is hers. Sookie disappears in the “between” after Sam dies. After spending time there and making a deal she didn’t intend, she is called back to Louisiana only to find things have changed-big time.
Almost 200 years have passed and the world is not as she left it. Tech is different, the world is different, her friends and family are long gone and passed. The more things change, however, the more they stay the same. There is new mystery to solve that requires Sookie's 'gift'. The vampires are still walking the Earth, and despite her attempts to run from them, she once again finds herself becoming wrapped up in their politics.
Story is canon compliant with the book series-no TrueBlood references.

Mac shifted, rolling partly over onto his side, catching and hugging a pillow to his chest. He looked vulnerable and harmless, but Nikki knew he was far from the latter. If she simply left now he’d probably sleep for another few hours, but she needed more time than that. She couldn’t have him and Jack on her ass, not for a while at least.
She watched Mac breathe for a moment while she thought. His shoulder gently rising and falling with each slow breath, his cheek mushed against his pillow, his mouth slightly parted but not quite snoring. He’d always been a quiet sleeper, something she’d appreciated about him through their relationship.
She considered killing him.
